This news makes me hot! 8O
SAW 2: SAW, the terrifying new film produced by Twisted Pictures and released by Lions Gate Films, the motion picture acquisition, production and distribution arm of Lions Gate Entertainment, cut a wide swath into the nationwide box-office over the lucrative Halloween weekend, grossing $18.3 million on 2315 screens, taking the #3 position. Scaring off the competition by coming in #1 on Halloween day, the films three day gross exceeded industry expectations. On the heels of positive response to the bloody tale of a twisted psychopath's murderous cat and mouse games, plans for the sequel releasing Halloween 2005 was jointly announced by Peter Block, Lions Gate Films President of Acquisitions, Television and Co-Productions and Twisted Pictures Mark Burg, Oren Koules and Gregg Hoffman.
"We were confident going into this weekend as the only new horror release that we would hit our target audience of genre fans, but this has exceeded all our expectations," said Tom Ortenberg, President of Lions Gate Films Releasing. "With 'SAW,' James Wan and Leigh Whannell have tapped into filmgoers' most base fears and have created something that people immediately feel they need to talk about with others, and see again to catch clues they may have missed the first time," he added.
"We are thrilled about the strong opening weekend of 'SAW.' Lions Gate's marketing and distribution team has done a phenomenal job and we're very excited to be partnering with them again on SAW 2," say producers Burg, Koules and Hoffman.

Ehh....i dunno Kross, i mean why does everything have to have a damn sequel these days. I think ill go see the movie yea that's not what im saying, but why can't they leave movies alone cough The ring cough. Seems like most movies i see these days will have a sequel or prequel before the end of the next year. I mean for damn sake get a new plot.

yes! the movie was great, but the acting was way off!!!!
I don't know if the problem was Elwes's acting ability or the lack of the director not knowing in how should a person act.

I agree. Even if they do it well, I still wish to see some damn new material in movies. I'm so tired of the same crap over and over again. That's one of the things that made Saw so great. It was different from other horrors/thrillers. Oh well Hollywood has it quirks I guess ::sighs:: :?

Dark Horizons got word yesterday that screenwriter Alex Garland, the demented mind behind 28 DAYS LATER, will be writing SAW 2: HACKSAW.
Seems that while James Wan and Leigh Whannell will be back to produce, Wan will not be back to direct. SAW 2 is sheduled for an October 28th release, which only leaves them about 9 months to write, cast, film, edit, market and release this bad boy.
Can they do it and make it great? I doubt it. I'll see it but they are crazy making the sequel so soon.
This is also the first that I have heard of the title Saw 2: Hacksaw.

They should just leave this alone. The first was a suprise smash, and a decent film because the content and characters were unexpected. Now they've been shown to us, I think there's a risk that this could backfire big time!

At first I was really excited to see this sequel since I loved Saw, but I really wish they would push this movie back or better yet, not make it at all. You're exactly right Garfield.
Also, the rumors of Alex Garland writing Saw 2 are false.
Some good news in the latest Saw 2 update. Rumors are put to rest:

I guess they will be keeping low on the budget too.
I have my doubts also however, I'm still looking forward to seeing Saw: Hacksaw.

I guess they will be keeping low on the budget too.
They spent less than about 2 million to do the first one and they made $55,153,403 at the box office. I doubt they keep the budget low this time now that they have the money.
Also, it seems like news is coming in daily for Saw 2.
The director has been found out...
His name is Darren Bousman.

Well from the guys at Dead central (http://www.horrorchannel.com/dread/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=919), they claimed that the film is still keeping it's independent nature at it's heart. I was assuming that means low budget.

Spoiler <--Not sure if I need this but I'll put it here anyway.
Sorry to be random. just wanted to say that I dont think they should do this. In my opinion, the first one was really only a good movie because of the surprise ending where you find out the killer was actually there the entire time. I think if they make the sequel...its going to suck. It'll proly be decent but there wont be anything special about it becuz they wont surprise us @ the end like the 1st one did.
momerath
03-14-2005, 06:26 PM
I don't think that's necessarily true... they might not be able to surprise us again, but odds are they'll figure out a way. There is, after all, more than one way to shock an audience.

SAW was awesome, I don't care what anyone says. But I would have to agree that the acting was a bit off. As far as the Sequel goes....I wouldn't want to ruin the first one for anyone so dont read anymore if you haven't seen it yet. In the end of SAW, when we find out that the dude on the floor gets up and he is behind all of the madness....what if in the second movie, that dude that gets up is also part of the GAME and someone else told him to do that....that's what im expecting. but i havent read anything on the sequel so i have no idea.

SAW was awesome, I don't care what anyone says. But I would have to agree that the acting was a bit off.Well, anytime you have to do a movie in 18-21 days you only have one or two chances to get it right. They never had the luxury of retake after retake as you see in many of the regular budget movies. With that said, i really don't want to slam the acting too much. I found it acceptable and reasonalble considering the circumstances.

"GAME OVER" and shut the door. :o <thats was my face
anyway. i thought i read somewhere that with the money they had on the first film, they could show much... gore, i guess. but they said they have more money so the were going to make it as bloody as it can be.

Yes I do agree with most of everyone here they can't make any new plot ideas so they have to take the lazy way and go to sequels especially with horrors. In my opinion I though saw was a pretty good modern horror flick and they might actually pull it off with a sequel, but this has been going on for too long.
