For those who have seen The Grudge, what do you think about the news of a sequel?

I think, why not. I would watch it. The Grudge had some good scares. And who knows, well except for those who have seen the jap. version, it may have a better story.

I think the idea is really great because I loved The Grudge but it depends on how they do it. Sequels are a make or break situation. Very few sequels have ever lived up to the originals. So I say we'll see.

I thought it was crap. A few CGI faces and a jump scare or two. Even if you don't like subtitles though, see THE ORIGINAL! Its alot scarier.

Or atleast in Australia, because I was just looking at the cover yesterday.

If I had to describe the word "terrible" without using words, facial expressions, or gestures of any kind, I would sit somebody down and make them watch the Grudge.

That movie is absolutely horrible, and I can't believe they're making a remake. Movies with cheap scares (you know, flashing something really fast and loud to make you jump) are NOT scary! You want scary...watch Silence of the Lambs...that is REAL horror. Another fine example of a great horror movie is Saw. Scaring you physically is one thing, but giving you a complete mind-fvck and scaring you with something that could ACTUALLY happen is a different kind of scary...the real kind.

I think the sequel isn't a good idea. I first saw the remake with Sarah michelle gellar and than the original version. scenes were copied literally in the remake. Not all scenes. I hope they don't do that in the sequel. but i will wait and see

Where I said "remake" I actually meant "sequel." My mistake. Anyways...HORRIBLE CHOICE!

The sequel to the blockbuster horror remake of 2004.

"The Grudge 2" delves into the secrets behind the grudge's wrath and introduces a seemingly unrelated host of new characters who find themselves connected by the same terrifying supernatural curse.

Amber Tamblyn will play the younger sister of Sarah Michelle Gellar, who returns long enough to pass on the movie's supernatural curse. The sequel delves into the secrets behind the grudge's wrath and introduces a seemingly unrelated host of new characters who find themselves connected by the curse. Arielle Kebbel and Teresa Palmer play American schoolgirls in Tokyo.

Release Date: October 13th, 2006

THe Grudge was the saddest, most ridiculous and dumbest excuse for a film I have seen in a cinema in recent years. The "scares" were so bad it was laughable. If I see The Grudge 2, so help me God, it will just to see how bad it is.

Yup, it's the humble guide to American filmmaking. If you can make one crap remake of a scary Japanese horror, then why not make the sequel.

The only comfort I take from this is that the studios will undoubtedly release Ju-On 2 on DVD to coincide, and I haven't had the pleasure of seeing Ju-On 2 yet!

Dr. Feinstone
07-15-2006, 10:41 PM
I was wondering, how is Ju-On, I mean The Grudge was so bad, that I can't imagine Ju-On being good, that means they must of messed up the Grudge REAL BAD.

I agree with scary parts made me laugh as I said above, and I actually own movies like Ax Em and Killer Nerd, but I could not stand this film.

This trailer is great. The film makers knew we didn't want to see the entire movie, so they just crammed everything in the movie into one short trailer. Thanks guys!

The film makers should stop trying the keep the series running already. Both the Japanese and English versions were absurdly poor and boring, why oh why are they producing a sequel when they're only going to further embarrass themselves with an inferior storyline.

I supose everyone seen this news on movieweb front page
http://www.movieweb.com/news/93/14493.php

I don't know about you, but I have a strange feeling this is all some kind of marketing scam for the upcoming movie. It reminds me of the time everybody believed "Blair Witch Project" was actually real footage... I don't know, there's something "theatrical" about the interview with Amber Tamblyn.. Althought it freaked me out as hell!
What do you think??? It certainly caught MY interest though 8O

i checked it out and its very cool yet i do not buy it for a second. I think that they would in no way exploit someone like that and almost make a joke out of someones disapperance. either way its a great marketing tool and i found it highly entertaining. good idea!!

Smyaura
09-10-2006, 08:50 AM
In my opinion, it's a complete scam. Why would his room mate be more eager to trace him than his parents, whom no one has heard from? Gah. Inferior storyline + Marketing scam = Ridicule!

clockworkcookie
09-10-2006, 04:17 PM
Hehe nevertheless I think you have to admit it's an ORIGINAL way of marketing a horror movie..

My ass. I watched the first one with the dude on the plane. First of all, no student going for his masters in Film Production (he said he was writing his thesis) is going to even want to see the Grudge 2. Second, there is no way any professor of any self-respecting film school is going to assign somebody to write a thesis on the Grudge 2. Thesis' are a minimum of 30 pages, its hard to write that much on an entire genre let alone a crappy japanese ripoff horror film sequel. Its a web-series of fake interviews to try to get attention for the film, which will suck. Horror is dead.

clockworkcookie
09-11-2006, 12:39 PM
I'm not even a fan of the first Grudge, let alone Grudge 2. (In fact I don't like much horror movies).
But I think everyone is taking it too seriously here.. Well, ok, I was amused.

Dr. Feinstone

Dumb marketing scam, IMO. Kind of gay to pretend somebody diaaappeared to promote a movie. That is a new low. THe Grudge was terrible, so will this.

clockworkcookie
09-14-2006, 05:24 PM
Well I think it's low to promote movies by putting sexy actresses with no talent whatsoever in them, and then marketing their tits and butts. Aparently that's not as offensive here though. Must be because it's common.
But if we're going to discuss marketing strategies... gee..

ClarkParker
09-15-2006, 10:40 AM
Need I point out this is really a blatant ripoff of how the Blair Witch Project was promoted?

The grudge is terrible. Trust me, if you hated the Ring, you'll hate the Grudge much worse. And it's not scary at all. It goes for "boo!" moments rather than real terror, and they're all visible from a mile away.

juicer99
10-15-2006, 09:46 PM
Agreed, Grudge is just as bad as it gets. It's too bad that movies like this (remakes) continue to sell. Makes hollywood very stagnant. If you want to see a good horror movie just check out [URL="http://www.rawfeed.com"]Rest Stop./URL] Rest Stop is what horror movies should be about, raw and gritty and full of gore (def get the unrated version if you buy it)

However the critics are slaying The Grudge 2, so I will probably wait for the dvd.

I really dislike The Grudge and wouln't watch The Grudge 2 not in a million years, because.. I'm probably way more sensitive than most... but when I saw The Grudge it completely terrified me, and I couldn't sleep for a couple of nights (seriously!); but what's worst, the whole movie seemed to have absolutely no story, and no point whatsoever, other than... to terrify me!

In fact that's why I hate these modern japanese-influenced horror movies & remakes, because they just show sequences of horrible and really scary (at least for me) images while the story itself doesn't have any interest... I think Pulse (the japanese version) is the only movie with a story that sounds interesting, but unfortunately it's really hard for me to get the japanese movies here in Portugal.

I supose my favorite horror movies are old classics like the Shining and the Exorcist, because they treat their subjects in such an intringuing and subtle way, completely the oposite of the "show-it-all" approach of movies like The Grudge..

I felt the same way about the grudge and the ring situation too. I thought that the grudge one was legendary, it had great graphics, and well nealli made me piss myself. (not with laughter) But the second one, the graphics in that, were crap, e.g when the room starts to go black around the edges, it just looked so fake. And it doesnt help having a shit lead character does it ?
