Forums: Greatest Fight Scenes (All-Time?)

  • I was redoing my "greatest fights" photo album today, and wondered what some of you thought were the greatest showdowns ever to be put on screen. I'm sure a lot of you have different favorites.

It's simple; state the film, scene, who was involved, and reasons for enjoying/praising the epicness that commenced. :)

Well, I'll go for the obvious since noone has said it yet and say the fight between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in Empire Strikes Back. I don't believe I need to explain much there :P

I really enjoyed the fight between Chloe Moretz and Mark Strong in Kick-Ass as well. Props for Strong not holding back because of Moderate being a child. Not that I like seeing children get hurt, but you know what I mean. He's a killer, she's a killer, they were doing what killers do. Very entertaining.

Then to round out my top 3 picks, the fight scene between Jason Bourne and the sleeper cell in Tangier, Morocco in Bourne Ultimatum. The epitome of a bad muthaf*cking fight, man.

And special mention for Tony Jaa kicking everyone's asses in the first Ong Bak :P

  • Haha, nice choices man. I whole heartedly agree with Empire Strikes Back's duel. No matter what, that scene is the most epic sci-fi showdown EVER, in my opinion. The buildup was amazing, the fight wasn't as one sided as some expected, and the whole hand cut off/"I am your father" ending was brill. Fantastic.

Agreed with the Bourne scene as well. I'll have to think hard about my top three. :P

To me, all of the fights in Jet Li's Hero.

@narrator Oh, well I thought they were absolutely beautiful. The music, sfx, and the style, it's just fantastic. My favorite fight was the lake scene. I mean, you are watching the movie and listening to the story, but at some points you are watching work of arts. Same thing for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

  • Cool man. While I think Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was one of the most overrated films of the past few years, I felt it had some solid and beautiful scenes.

  • Lol @cupid, while I agree with most of those, this forum is meant to be more specific, as in your favorite fight scenes (like 5 or so) and reasons as to why you choose those particular scenes.

  • I loved the fight in Troy between Brad Pitt and Eric Bana. The cinematography was just great for that particular scene and I also loved how well choreographed it was. I could also sense the anger flowing through each of their movements and in the end of it all it seems like an actual battle that once had occurred.

  • I also loved (well i call fight scene) the showdown between Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed. I mean by now you have gained so much respect for the character of Rocky that you literally cheer him on as he beats the crap outta Creed.

  • Nice choices @dave. My favorite Rocky fight was in Rocky 2, where Rocky trips after punching Creed. Creed gets up faster while rocky gets up dramatically slow, and just when you think Creed has it, he falls down, and Rocky wins. Awesome scene.

  • Agreed there @narrator
I liked the first fight in number one however because he loses but then he doesnt really care and all he does is call out Adrian's name and she calls for him. At the end they embrace. God that touched my heart.

    5) Kill Bill: The Bride v. Elle. Let's just say it was a sight to behold.
    4) Beauty & The Beast: The Beast v. Gaston. The tide turns when Belle arrives.
    3) The Godfather: Sonny v. Carlo. Yes, it was exaggerated, but it was a fun beatdown.
    2) LOTR: Gandalf v. Balrog. Holy Sh*t.
    1) Goldfinger: James Bond v. Oddjob. A shocking result, to say the least.
