@comicbookfan I had a good day today. I was able to pick up the Marvel Masterworks of the Silver Surfer first six issues. I haven't read it yet, but I do hope we get to see Norrin Radd on Zenn-La. By the way, I'm not the only one that feels that Silver Surfer deserves a movie right?

  • @ejk1 Nice, man, I have always wanted to read the Surfer's origin. I have always found him interesting, outside of his run-ins with the 4. The Galactus story and his heralds have always intrigued me, and Surfer has plenty of supporting characters to go around, including Uatu The Watcher and Nova, who replaces him when he defies/challenges his master. I have the 13 episodes that Marvel Animation Age produced for Fox Kids in the late 90s on digital format, but am going to buy the UK ClearVision DVD soon. You are not the only one who would like the movie to be made... After F4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Doug Jones was apparently contracted for more films to portray him including the Silver Surfer spin-off movie that was penned by none other than my favorite comic book writer, J. Michael Straczynski. Now JMS had stuck to his script and for some reason when the FF3 movie became dead water, I guess they just dropped the idea of JMS' Silver Surfer movie starring Doug Jones. The idea was to actually show Galactus and explain the struggle between him and Radd, Tim Story stated on the FF2 DVD commentary that they purposely only "teased" at Galactus by showing that cloud thing cuz they were saving his reveal for the Silver Surfer movie. Now Galactus is just remembered as a big stupid cloud. They defenitely mucked that whole story up, and I, for one, would have liked the spin-off to have happened. I'm curious to what JMS had in mind.

@comicbookfan I wouldn't mind seeing JMS's take on the Surfer, especially because it sounds like he would have taken us to Zenn-La. From what I remember of the cartoon, Zenn-La was beautiful.

  • @ejk1 It sure was, but their costumes were a lil funky lol. I think JMS could have done a superb job explaining the Cosmic Power and how Norrin becomes the Surfer.

@comicbookfan How about this: An origins movie of Silver Surfer that ends with him heading towards Earth. That same summer, we get the FF reboot, and then three years later, the movie that FF2: ROTSS should have been is made. Then both the SS and FF franchises go on their merry ways. What do you think of something like that?

I dunno sh*t about sh*t really with Fantastic Four, but even to me that sounds good, @ejk1. *butts out of the comic book experts conversation*
Valar morghulis, Jon Snow. but valar dohaeris.

  • @ejk1 That just sounds like a rehash of what's already been done, from the Fantastic 4 standpoint. I'm frankly sick of all the remakes. The Surfer idea sounds cool, though. Problem is, Marvel never owned that property either, I don't think. Wasn't it 20th Century Fox since 1994?

The second movie is rehash yes, as it is FF 2 the way it should have been done, with an actual Galactus sighting. That ridiculous cloud thing cannot be allowed to stand as Galactus's journey to Earth.

Okay guys, here's some info for you. According to Comic Shop News, the following DC titles will be ending in May:

    Doom Patrol
    Freedom Fighters
    JSA All Stars
    R.E.B.E.L.S.

Personally, I am very saddened by R.E.B.E.L.S. ending, as I find it to be quite enjoyable. The character of Vril DOx is fun as hell, so I'm hoping that DC finds somewhere to place the spawn of Brainiac fairly quickly.

  • @comicbookfan Hi, I thought I'd get back too you about the Turtles comic I was talking about,

B&W, Turtles get attacked by The Foot, they spring from their hiding place in the snow. One of the Turtles gets his hand cut off and this causes Splinter to vomit.
Any help would be appreciated, I'd love to find that comic again.

  • @ejk1 Oh, are they getting rid of Vril Dox?

@mixlexic Wow, can't believe you found it. Amazing! Even though the cover art looks bad, the story sounds great. A bloody snow battle in the woods... I wonder how the Turtle gets his hand back... Either way, I'm looking to collect this old series, even if just in digital form. I've got an old issue in color, I believe from Volume 2, with Slash the evil turtle who is obsessed with his little palm tree. Talk about a badass, I wish I could relocate that one, since I cannot find my single issues from when I was a kid.

@comicbookfan Sadly, it seems that way. But hopefully, he can latch on somewhere else. I love that character.

  • @ejk1 Yeah, and I love the modern Brainiac. Hopefully he lands somewhere else.

@comicbookfan Do yourself a favor and pick up R.E.B.E.L.S. trades whenever you can. It's definitely worth it my friend :)

  • @comicbookfan: How much do you know about Dick Tracy? The 1990 movie starring Warren Beatty was my all time favorite movie growing up. I was interested in knowing how true it was to the comics in terms of the story and the characters. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

  • @thedude-abides Well, I used to love the Dick Tracy movie growing up as well. Madonna as sexy Breathless Mahoney? Um... yeah. I even had the little immovable figurines, I still have them with all my action figures in storage. I believe I had all the characters, too. And I even had a audio-cassette storybook of the movie.

Anyways, as far as how close it was to the comic book source material or canon, I know it was very similar to the first few years' worth of comic strips in the early '30s. If you go to www.mycomicshop.com , type in "Dick Tracy" in the search bar, you can find a lot of this stuff, such as these first appearances of the comic strip:

    Or, this anthology Hardcover:

Hope that helps. (Sorry, I don't know much else on Dick Tracy.)
