  • @Monkey-iron The first issue of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Laird and Eastman is relatively short. It isn't until you get a few issues deep into those old black and white singles that the story starts being told. You have to remember that Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman thought this was a crazy idea, and were broke, and just needed to pitch this the right way even though they never thought it would be picked up. I love the TMNT comics as well, the ones put out by Mirage, in which there is only 4 series volumes total, but I would rather recommend you some of the collected edition trade paperbacks of the 1st, 2nd, or 4th series' (since the 3rd volume by Image Comics is not considered canon), but nevertheless, here you go. This is the first 4 issues. Some are out of stock, I will keep looking since it looks like #1 is unavailable.

  • @Monkey-iron Also, some TPBs on that site that collect the first few issues. There'a a huge TPB floating around somewhere with I believe Raph's face on the cover that collects issues #1-11 of the first series, as well as Leonardo #1, Donatello #1, Raphael #1 and Michelangelo #1. However, I cannot locate it yet without hitting an outrageous price. That is the book I would recommend were you to find it cheap. But anyway, check it out:

  • @dan1 Yeah, the first issue of TMNT from 1984 is a sought-after collector's piece of classic-ness. You are not going to find these first Turtles Classic comics for cheap, really. The first issue has been reprinted a total of four times to date. 30 bucks is reasonable for one of these first few issues, IMO, especially since they are rarities and extremely difficult to find.

  • @dan1 Also, because, if you glance again, the few issues you looked at are graded freakin' high on the comics scale. Both 8.0 Very Fine grades? Yeah, you will always pay more with that kind of a grade.

    Yeah, I noticed the ratings. I guess that all makes sense, I remember our talk about the very first Superman issue and it being worth X amount of thousands.

  • Yeah, Iremember that too, it was in the news, it was I believe a 9-point-something grade, a Mint condition Action Comics #1 from 1938 that sold for a few thou. Ironic, since when it came out, the cover price was 10 cents.

  • @Monkey-iron Here's the TMNT trade I'd recommend that I was talking about. Tho... yeah, unless you wanna pay that ridiculous price the 3rd-party sellers are asking... keep searching. But I just wanted to show you.

    @comicbookfan If someone were a die hard TMNT fan, I could see them buying that. I've shelled out 300 bucks over things I've wanted really badly in the past (my PS3 for example). I noticed the weight on that package, too. 2.2 pounds worth, pretty bad ass, man.

    @dan1@comicbookfan You guys reminded me of comic books I have looked at on ebay. For fun I just look for great rated originals and I found some interesting books there for insane amounts of money. For instance, the 1940 original GL, with Alan Scott, goes for about $12,000.
  • 2 years ago
  • @ejk1 Damn, the Alan Scott origin - now there's a vintage classic, lol. If it's going for that much, the GCG grade must be high. Any ideas what the grade was? My jaw will drop if it was a Mint.

  • Cool, @ejk1. That is a great find, yeah a 9.0, very nice. It's hard to find higher grades on old material, since the pages are usually not white anymore. Yeah and I seen both you mentioned, what a find, buddy.

    @summit10 Oh yeah!!
