  • I just recently saw the preview for 1408 and can't wait for it to come out. It's based on a Stephen King short story, stars John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson and it looks pretty good. The release date is July 13th (a Friday for those of you that are into that sort of thing). Horror isn't usually my first choice in movies but this trailer really caught my interest and made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Check out the trailer at:

  • The trailer for this movie looks really good, but unfortunately that may be all that's good. I've been looking around for reviews because I'm really interested in this, but I have found some mixed response. From my experience if all the buzz on imdb is really positive and there are a few sparkling reviews that don't really list anything bad, then the movie is usually a disappointment. I saw a review of a test screening that said it wasn't King's best work and that Cusack really didn't cut it as a horror actor. I had my doubts about him in this role. I am a really big fan of Stephen King, but I might just wait for this one on DVD. I'll just read the short story again it's cheaper and I'm guessing a lot better than the movie!

What are other people's thoughts? I'm curious about what others have heard about this film...

  • I saw this movie today and I thought it was very good. John Cusack did an outstanding job since a lot of the movie was focused on watching him and how he reacts to various situations. Samuel L. Jackson was also good in his small, yet crucial part as the hotel manager. It was suspenseful and creepy throughout Cusack's stay in room 1408. The last scene made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I'm giving it 8.5/10.

  • I saw 1408 this past Friday, and lets say i have yet to dislike a film of Stephen Kings and a film Mister John Cusack has been in. Yes i adore John, but he was amazing in this film. Everyone needs to go see it and keep it in the theatres!

  • Just watched this and I definitely enjoyed it thoroughly. Cusack rocks it and the story is very well done. I didnt know what would happen in the end and they certainly could have taken several different routes and thankfully the one they picked was solid.

    a strong 7/10

I loved the scene where the clock starts all over again and the woman on the phone tells him to either relive that hour over and over or go through the "express checkout." Very creepy. Also looking forward for the DVD realease because there will be a alternate ending that is said to be a "downer."

I completly agree, there were a couple ways they could have taken it in the end but they choose one that was satisfactory.7/10

The "express checkout" and when his little girl died in his arms were two of the creepiest scenes I can recall

BTW: Stephen King WTF is wrong with you?

  • 1408 may not fit into the horror CLASSIC'S category with some of Stephen King's other films such as The Shining and Carrie, but it still has that chill factor. This film is a sweet escape from a lot of the horror movies that have come our way in the past year or so. Blood and guts isn't always necessarily scary. In 1408, it's the use of lighting, great effects, sense of sound, and John Cusack's oustanding one-man performance that make this film both terrifying and creepy. This may not be the most entertaining horror film or one that will be watched over and over again, but it certainly makes you think and at times, keeps you on the edge of your seat. 1408 is a horror film worth seeing. It started pretty good when he came into the hall/room.. Later on I found the movie to be a bit too actionful to build up some tense.. In my opinion it could have been more mysterious/disturbing/freaki&#235r.. And I'm not talking about gore or anything, as I do not care for it.. The movie just isn't really scary to be honest, and I expected otherwise.. Also the ending/escape was a bit too easy.. Still this movie is pretty decent and worth a watch..
