  • I too am excited for it. It will be nice to see a Mel Gibson movie again, I love his directing style.

  • Yeah he is a great director, having some really good work. He is really good at visually telling a story and after seeing the trailer it is apparent this film is going to be same. Have you seen the trailer yet?

  • I'm really looking forward to this movie!! I mean, I like Mel Gibson's movies, specially because he is so ambitious with them and it generally comes out very perfectionist. But Mel Gibson making a movie about this amazing subject, that no one has touched yet??? It can't fail. People tend to look at the fall of the Mayan civilization from the christians point of view - they came, they butchered everyone, built some churches etc. - but this movie looks at it from the Mayan perspective, and how it was partly brought down because of its own decadence. Yes, I sound like a nerd, but that's because I am one.
It always strikes me how the world was so attracted to Scotland's history and William Wallace, after he made Braveheart. That movie really changed people's perspective on the History of Scotland. I think Apocalypto has that power too.
    Can't wait!

  • clockworkcookie, great post and completey agree. Mel definitely has the power to persuade and I am really looking forward to seeing his persceptive on the Mayan civilization -- an intriguing subject that needs to be disected further. He is such a talented director and I am confident this will be a sucess.

  • Mel Gibson explore an interesting, an unplored for Hollywood movies, theme of our history.
And the release date it&#180s my Birth Day :D

I love Mel Gibson movies, so I have good expectations, at least the theme is something new and different, an interesting tragical subject of our history in common.

  • It is a fairly unexplored theme in film, and I think he'll do a helluva job with it.

  • i am really curious about this movie

part of me thinks there will be no speaking lines... ha

but part of me knows Mel Gibson makes masterpeices

The Passion of the Christ (yes, i dare speak of it), and Braveheart immediatley come to mind- both spectacular films with birlliant directing (i beleive Gibson won an Oscar for Braveheart)

v I am really looking forward to seeing his persceptive on the Mayan civilization .

me too. i didn't look at the film like that until reading this but, what a concept!!?

when its all said and done, i bet my money that Apocalypto is a good may be even great movie

  • Well the film is in a Mayan dialect so it is all in subtitles -- I am really interested to hear how Mayan dialect sounds.

And Topher, it comes out a week from today, Dec. 8th! I can't wait. And yes it is going to be masterpiece. I expect nothing less from Gibson.

  • Actually if one cared about it, it is not looking all that good, cause some of the positive critics say things like this:

"It should have been titled Run, Jaguar, Run. Try to forget Gibson's spiritual intent (and bad conduct) and watch it as the best, most thrilling, and longest chase actioner Hollywood has made this year, putting to shame genre "experts" like Michael Bay."

This is not exactly what I expect of the movie you know. But still, I never trusted movie critics so I'm still looking forward to the movie (it only comes out in January here).

  • Wow, yes it is! 82%! that is great!

And did you read The Variety review? It is one of many praising the film. Here is clip of what it says:

Mel Gibson is always good for a surprise, and his latest is that "Apocalypto" is a remarkable film. Set in the waning days of the Mayan civilization, the picture provides a trip to a place one's never been before, offering hitherto unseen sights of exceptional vividness and power. In the wake of its director's recent outburst and unwanted publicity, commercial prospects remain anyone's guess, and those looking for a reason not to attend will undoubtedly find one, be it Gibson's tirade, the gore, the subtitles or outre subject matter. But blood-and-guts action audiences should eat this up, Gibson is courting Latinos, eco-political types will like the message and at least part of the massive "The Passion of the Christ" crowd should be curious, so strong biz is possible if these distinct constituencies are roused.

  • I just wish these reviewers would leave Gibson's social life out of their reviews. Their job is to review the film, not talk about outside bullsh*t just to make their reviews longer.

  • Exactly. Just because Mel Gibson is a crazy f*ck doesnt mean the guy can't act and direct some of the best movies around.

  • Separate the Artist from the Art, that's always my stance. I'm very excited to see this film.
I never trust critics, except maybe for a select few. I end up disagreeing with them most of the time. Even I agree in whether it's good or bad, they're usually different reasons.
