No, I agree. It is interesting to say the least.
I don't think this movie is going to dissapoint you, because by the looks of you're icon, you'll enjoy it if Jake Gyllenhal just takes off his shirt.
It was sarcastic/funny.
First, the only good Ang Lee movie is Crouching Tiger. He's responsible for bringing an Emma Thompson story (gag) to the screen and creating the most abstract, worthless superhero movie ever. Let this be known; I don't like indie films in general. To me over 80 percent of them are self aware pieces of sh*t. Trey Parker and Matt Stone hit the nail on the head with their "gay cowboys eating pudding joke." And now, we're actually getting a movie that is about f*cking gay cowboys. (I could make so many tasteless jokes here, but I'll restrain myself...for now.)
I have no desire to pay any amount of money to see Heath Ledger bone Jake Gyllenhall. I don't care how edgy it is. Or how well written or directed. Gay cowboys? That hurts my soul. Sure they may exist out there, but goddammit, cowboys are badasses in the realm of cinema. John Wayne, Yul Bryner, Gene Autry, and Lee f*cking Van Cleef! Come on! This is going to be tripe and the only reason it's winning awards is because bored critics and juries are creaming their jeans due to it "being different." This film was a huge waste of time because it's going to be a commercial flop no matter how many rave reviews it gets and will be forgotten (like all but one of Ang Lee's films) in no less than a year.
P.S. Yes, I am a slobbering male chauvinist who would easily drop seven bucks to see this flick if it starred Keira Knightley and that girl from The Phantom of the Opera as lesbian cowgirls. I'm not gonna fight how I'm built. Nothing against gay dudes, but the thought of them laying in bed "cuddling" gives me the shivers.
I am pretty sure the composer/artist is Gustavo Santaolalla. Not entirely sure what the title of the song is, however a friend of mine stated that it might be "The Wings."
Hope that helps.
Oh, wait. Is that not the song? Daaaaaamn.

I don't get it... :?
gay content in films shouldnt take away from or add to the level of quality. outstanding films like 'mysterious skin' and 'my own private idaho' are considered great work for a reason, and it isnt because they happen to have a gay sex scene or two.
this 'which-taboo-can-we-flirt-with-next?' mentality is tired.

The person that mentioned cowboys as being badasses was me. And I stand by it. The only reason the novel, (have no idea who wrote it, and honestly, don't care), used that archetype was simply to "turn it on it's head." The movie would have worked just as well if they were travelling businessman. I'm not saying it's a bad film. I haven't seen it, and won't. So I won't judge it completely. But I can say this. The movie, and story, seem to aspire to such lofty heights that there is no way it can be pulled off. Asking the audience to buy into a romance between two male characters? That's fine. But it really only works as a sub-plot IMHO. An entire film based on a gay relationship isn't going to get you anywhere. Guys aren't going to see it because it's two, before now, somewhat macho actors portraying gay dudes, and girls aren't too keen on the idea of two guys being together as well. Commercially, it will tank. Critically, I can see it splitting people down the middle. But I'll never see it. Not because I'm homophobic, but because the entire premise of the film lacks any elements closley resembling a plot. This movie is over 2 hours long. Just think about that for a minute. 90 minutes would have been pretentious for this material, but 2 hours and 10 minutes? That running time gets ONE reaction from me...
