  • I'm creating a brand new forum so you don't have to sift through responses on the voting forum to find out the winners. I'm posting both the worst and best movies of the year here, so start scrolling!

I'll start with the top 10 worst of the year:

    10. The Change-Up (12 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    9. Hoodwinked Too! Hood Vs. Evil (15 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    8. The Hangover: Part II (17 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    7. Battle: Los Angeles (17 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    6. Shark Night 3D (19 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    5. Your Highness (20 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    4. Jack and Jill (20 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    3. Scream 4 (24 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    2. Green Lantern (27 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    1. Sucker Punch (44 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

Yes, Sucker Punch was voted far and away to be the year's worst film. Though, as @dan1 noted earlier, a forum for the year's most DISAPPOINTING films might be better than one for the year's WORST. Many people try to avoid films that look horrible, causing films like Twilight, Big Mommas 3, Spy Kids 4, Abduction, and New Year's Eve to fall short of getting many votes.

Here's the full list of films that garnered at least 5 points of hate:

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 (10 points)
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (10 points)
    New Year's Eve (9 points)
Season of the Witch (9 points)
    Hall Pass (9 points)
    Abduction (8 points)
Spy Kids: All the Time in the World (6 points)
Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (6 points)
    Rubber (5 points)
    Apollo 18 (5 points)
Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star (5 points)
    Conan the Barbarian (5 points)
    Puss in Boots (5 points)

    -----

And now for the year's best! And let me tell you, I did NOT see this one coming.

    10. Warrior (22 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    9. The Tree of Life (24 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    8. 50/50 (29 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    7. Mission: Impossible--Ghost Protocol (34 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    6. Super 8 (35 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    5. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (42 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image
    ?w=692&h=1024

    4. War Horse (45 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    3. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (50 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (53 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

    1. Drive (66 points)

    MovieWeb Forum Image

That's right! The MovieWeb Film of the Year is Drive. Pff. Forget the snubs at the Academy Awards. It's got a MW no-prize under it's belt! Other surprising surges came from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, 50/50, and Warrior.

The list of the years best more accurately reflects the opinion of the community than that of the year's worst. There were more lists posted and more consistency amongst nominees.

Here is the full list of films that garnered at least 5 points of love:

    The Descendants (20 points)
    Midnight in Paris (20 points)
    Hugo 18 points)
    X-Men: First Class (16 points)
The Adventures of Tintin (14 points)
    Rango (14 points)
The Ides of March (12 points)
    The Muppets (12 points)
    A Separation (11 points)
    Bellflower (11 points)
    Moneyball (7 points)
    The Artist (5 points)
Captain America: The First Avenger (5 points)

Notice the frontrunner for Best Picture sitting at the very bottom? Hmm...

Notable Omissions: Bridesmaids and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close didn't earn a single point. Also left with no points, even more shockingly, was The Help.

**NOTE ON SCORING: Last year, I used a basic system of 1 point for 5th, 2 points for 4th, etc. I used that again this year, but I also added points to films based on the number of times they were placed in a list. That way, a film who was listed five times in the 5th spot, can recieve a higher score than a stray film that found its way to the top spot of one user's list.

Again, thank you to all who participated! You make the time and effort I put into this worth it. Tune in next year for the 3rd annual awards :D

  • @moviegeek, this is absolutely brilliant! Thanks a whole bunch for taking the time to do this for all of us, man. Much appreciated, to say the least.

As you said, the Worst-Of list is probably better named the Most-Disappointing list. Not much surprises there, I guess, not that many of us care which film was called wort out of all the bad ones. Lol.

The Best Pictures list I was blown away by. Drive in #1 spot? Are you serious!? F*cking awesome my co-moviewebers! Nice taste! I love every film I've seen in the top ten, so I'm more than pleased with the result.

Again, good job, 'geek. You really outdid yourself here.

  • @moviegeek -- I really liked how the top-three settled. I cannot make a valid statement about "Drive" at this given moment, but it's still awesome to know that it's our film of the year. I'm actually very, very shocked that "Warrior" is so low, and that "Sucker Punch" is #1 on worst movie of the year. I'm sure it was bad, but I know it can't be worse than "Abduction", Spy Kids, and "Jack and Jill". I think, if you have the time, you should fit in "Most Disappointing Movie of the Year" next year, sir - it would serve as a great addition.

Great job, man. I may have not participated, but I like how things turned out. I guarantee you I'll participate next year, though.

  • Drive was just an ok movie. Why does everyone love it so much!?
Some people call me the space cowboy ...

  • No beef with Drive being number one, nor with the top ten. MW made the right choices
There exist four rulers in this world: Gods, Humans, Vampires and Werewolves. The Question is, who do you think is above the food chain?

  • yey Drive- boo scream four was brilliant!

  • @moviegeek I gotta agree with half of your worst. Now while I agree with some belong on there I think Your Highness and Scream 4 shouldnt be on there, they were actually good films in my opinion. Now with the best I cant really comment on because I havent seen alot of those films but The Artist should definetly be on that list.

  • I couldn't have wished for a better outcome. Excellent job, fellow moviewebbers, and @moviegeek for putting this on for a second year in a row.

Inception and Drive are two pretty impressive picks for the MW community to collectively decide upon in the first two years of this consensus.

  • Congrats Drive! lol!

  • No surprise at all. These top five seem right in the Movieweb wheelhouse, though Drive was the only film in that list that made my personal top five. Where's Hugo? Where's Midnight in Paris?

Whoever voted for Scream 4 needs a punch in the gonads. That movie was great. :P

  • Top three, well at least 2 and 3, are well deserved. Have yet to see Drive though.

And I 1,000 times agree with @shuabert! How in the world is Scream 4 worse than Jack and Jill, The Hangover II, etc.?! That movie is top notch!
Wontons and Cloverfield. What else is new?

  • Again guys, the Worst-Films of 2011 would better be called the most disappointing films of '11. As film-buffs, we make it a point to avoid what we strongly believe will be rubbish, so to be fair, let's remember this was a majority vote. I think the list was fairly accurate in regards to our biggest disappointments.

@movieweb, I second @moviegeek's motion: let's publish this bad boy in an article.

  • Maybe I should have voted in the "most disappointing" because I was VERY disappointed with Pirates 4, and that didn't make this list.
  • @ROFLitschristian @shuabert Scream 4 was an attrocity!!!
  • Scream 4 was awesome. Don't know why it was in top 10 worst list. I like the top ten best list though. Great choices.

  • @moviegeek This forum is an atrocity!

Sorry, when a little overboard there.
Wontons and Cloverfield. What else is new?

  • I have still yet to see Drive, I agree with the top 1o best films, everything is perfect on that list, Although Green LAntern should have been the number one worst movie in that list, and Scream 4 should have been in Battle: L.A. spot since Scream 4 was a good film!
