Forums: Underrated actors/actresses in movies

  • I've just seen Collateral, the 2004 Michael Mann film that starred Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise, what made that film particularly great was the main actors. I realised that most the attention went to Jamie Foxx, yes he was probably the best thing in it but Cruise was as well fantastic but his performance seemed to be brushed under the carpet, maybe because he's Tom Cruise and doesn't need any more praise?

If anyone knows of any actor or actress that hasn't been noticed in a film maybe because all the attention has gone to someone else then please tell me, I'd love to know!

  • @stoned -- I'll post when an under-rated actor/actress comes to mind. ;)
Tyler Durden: You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your fucking khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world.

  • @moviemaniac66 -- It doesn't derive from the fact that he even mentioned them. They were still praised for their work(Tom Hardy - Bronson -- Jeremy Renner - The Hurt Locker).

  • A few that come to mind right off the top of my head are Pete Postlethwaite, Kevin Pollak, Ed Lauter and Brad Dourif.

Also Maura Tierney, and Catherine Keener for the ladies.

Mark Valley and Nathan Fillion are two television actors that should be headlining movie franchises. Kristin Kreuk and Emmanuelle Vaugier are two sexy and talented actresses that have gotten nowhere near the recognition they deserve, because they are not given the opportunities that they should have.

  • Michael Fassbender deserved more attention in a small but meaningful role in Inglorious Basterds. Most of the attention went to Christoph Waltz which was deserved but Fassbender was excellent as well.

  • @ChiRep-1 I found Fassbender's role in Inglorious Basterds to be down right amazing. I have been following his work ever since and well...the X Men First Class movie. he is def rising up the ranks. But his work in IB was fantastic. Couldnt agree more.

  • @skywise Agreed his career has definitely blown up since, but he seemed to fly under the radar compared to the likes of Waltz and even Pitt.

Fassbender made X-Men:FC in my opinion. Makes me all the more excited for Prometheus.

  • Now that I think about it, I'd have to go with Nicholas Cage - possibly the most under-rated actor ever, mainly because of his choice in movies lately.

  • @SherlockHolmes2009 J. R is not a very goos actor though- yes Hurt locker was an eye opener but come on alas hes type cast and i never feel like hes another charatcer on screen because of his outlook and costume cohice and poise and pose and his wardrobe is just too similar- i dont see no character but just Jeremy Renner

  • @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx (Tom Hardy - Bronson -- Jeremy Renner - The Hurt Locker). rue true- though the latter i dont like as an actor- though Hardy- what makes him brilliant is his eura and his way to create a different character each time and translate it off the screen, it gives of a very strong vobe in the cinema or on screen

underrated he was due to the fact that back in the 2002 he was in dreadful movies- picking up atrocius roles- rember him in the devasting Trekkie film NEMISIS!
