Forums: Favorite Directors of All Time???????

  • @Supes I know you think it's weird to name a bunch of my favorite directors, of all time. Therefore, I did not say how many directors you had to mention. And again it really does not matter if it is structured. I just want to know some of MW's favorite directors, and the favorite films of those directors, period. So it makes it simple, and fun to do.

  • Steven Spielberg (Raiders of the Lost Ark)
    Francis Ford Coppola (Godfather)
    George Lucas (Star Wars)
    Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3)
    Chris Nolan (The Dark Knight)
    James Cameron (Aliens, Terminator 2)
    Richard Donner (Superman)
    Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill)
    Stanley Kubrick (The Shining)
    Guillermo Del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth)
    John Lasseter (Toy Story)
    Neill Blomkamp (District 9)
Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings)
Martin Scorsese (Shutter Island, yes I speak the truth)
Favorite all around: Peter Jackson. Yes, Spielberg has made a larger quantity of great films, but Jackson's directing style is what makes "The Lord of the Rings" my all-time favorite films.

  • @Dave I know. Narrator said, don't name the only good directors in Hollywood. Those are not the only good ones. There are others I think are great.

  • @Pie, you're taking my words a little too literally. I know there are other good directors out there. My point is everyone you named is somewhat main-stream and/or well received, so I can't really narrow down what and who you prefer, which shows little personality on your part.

The point of making a forum like this, I thought, was to show each persons tastes and preferences, so we could better know them. Hard to do that when everyone lists the same directors or close to it, simply because there's no entry cap. Whereas if you narrow it down, it's easier to get the fix on some peoples tastes and preferences in a way, getting to know them better. Listing 10, to 20, to 30 guys is hardly specific or interesting.

Not barring down on you, I'm glad you made the thread, it's just specificity would definitely be preferred.

@Narrator gives a great reasoning as well to why the lists should be smaller and more specific.
Valar morghulis, Jon Snow. but valar dohaeris.

  • @Narrator I'll say that's a good reason. I still think you guys are making a big fuss over this.

  • @nislambkpl: Thanks. I like and think the older directors are the better ones, at least for now. Christopher Nolan as a chance to get into my top 5 if he keeps up the great film making.

  • Chris Nolan, Stanley Kubrick, Quentin Tarantino, Ti West, Darren Aronofsky are fantastic, but I must say Uwe Boll takes the cake for #1.

  • @crypt: Please tell your joking with Uwe Boll.

  • @huntsman Yeah I am definitely not serious about Boll. However I must say his movies do provide (somewhat) comical entertainment if I am bored enough.
