  • @Serial Nice list, but Speilberg has better movies than those 2. I didn't really like War of the Worlds, and I absolutely love Private Ryan. And why not the original Star Wars instead of #3? I liked #3, but nothing beats the originals in my mind. I hate Michael Bay, I think he's godawful. I LIKE the first transformers. I don't love it, I don't see why people praise it like a god, and I don't see why people praise Bay like he's this generations Hitchc*ck (I know you don't). Just me

  • M. Night Shyamalan is quietly one of the most intelligent as he takes simple plots and turns them into high impact and memorable messages!

  • @Scribes like Signs, Sixth Sense, and Unbreakable. Thank you. So many people say Shyamalan's a looney without looking at those 3 films (I'll say, Last Airbender was horrible)!

  • @Pie, I know you meant not just today. As I stated on my Best Films of All Time list, I simply relate more to today's films and filmmakers, or at least however few there are that I enjoy. Time doesn't necessarily make things better, and while I like some classics and older films, I'm not gonna say I love all of them just because some critics do. Also, you failed to address the length of your directors list. Lol. Too many to narrow down?

James Cameron (The Abyss, his best movie. The most earnestly emotional, well paced, and underrated film he did).

David Fincher (Fight Club, because I've seen it a million times, and enjoyed it every single time. I constantly notice new things with each viewing).

Steven Spielberg (Schindler's List, because it was one of the most mature, epic chroniclings of the plight of the Jews during the holocaust, and while its subject material is loathsome, it is undeniably handsomely crafted by anyone's standards)

Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, because like Fight Club, both films are like wine and cheese to me. The older they become, the greater they seem in my eyes. And because some of the now immortal dialog, such as "I'm gonna get medieval on your ass" lol. Or wallets that say Bad Muthaf*cker on them).

Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon. I bet you were thinking I would say Superman :P. LW because of Gibson and Glover's Riggs and Murtaugh being the best buddy cops put on celluloid, and for being infinitely re-watchable. I still crack up every time Mel jumps with the suicidal guy. He introduced to the world a literally nuts, but instantly loveable character, and his contrast to Glover was perfect).

They're not in any order, either.

  • Kubrick and Tarantino are the two best directors I have ever seen. Needless to say, they are my two favorites.

  • @Narrator They are not the only good directors in Hollywood (and about 1/4 of them are dead lol). I could name a ton of other good directors. I dont care how many you mention. Why does that matter?

Because it seems silly to name off a sh*t load when the title of the forum is "Favorite Directors of 'All' Time". That denotes (at least in my mind) that you're supposed to select a few that are really stand out, not name off every single director that is out there :P

  • @Supes every single director? I can name a ton (even though that is sarcasm). It doesnt matter to me how much you put out there. If you put 1, 2, 5, 20, 30, I dont give a sh*t! I just want your guys's opinion, and I think you guys are also making a bit too much of a fuss over this really little stuff! And all of those directors I named, stand out in my world.

If you really feel every single one of them are that great, fine. My whole point is you used the term "All Time" in your forum title, which I already explained denotes greatness that exceeds many other film makers, therefore generally making most people's lists smaller, since a lot of us would feel a select few are better then most. Obviously you feel differently.

I like things to be a bit more structured, too, I don't think that's asking much. Saying you don't care if someone named off 30 directors is similar in my mind to the unstructured, wacky forums that @MonkeyIron makes. I like some guidelines to when I'm making a list and things of this nature.

  • @Pie id have to agree with @Supes here. You did mention that from the start of your list.

Also-even though directors have passed away, that doesnt degrade them at all. Their works still live on.
