  • Please don't take a sh*t on me if I copied your forum. If I did, it's completely coincidental. What are your favorite directors? And what is your favorite movie they directed? (Don't have to be in any order).

  • No offense, but all of those directors you folks mentioned are great (fantastic even). But the word "favorites" usually means above the norm; you're personal best... And when you post like, 15-20 directors, that's more the "only good directors in Hollywood" list, than it is your favorites. I'd say choose your top ten max, and go for it. Stating so many directors as favorites is playing it safe because you're choosing most of the critically acclaimed ones, ones that most people would agree with, especially when there's no specific order. Order it man, and shorten the list.

    Example:
    10. J.J. Abrams (Star Trek)
    9. Ridley Scott (Blade Runner)
    8. Martin Scorsese (The Departed)
    7. Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan)
    6. Steven Spielberg (Munich)
    5. Guillermo Del Toro (Pans Labyrinth)
    4. Zack Snyder (Watchmen)
    3. Fight Club ( David Fincher)
    2. Christopher Nolan (The Prestige)
    1. Peter Jackson (Return of the King)

See? While I had a tough time choosing who was more deserving than the other, and although I had to cut guys like Eastwood, Mann, Gilroy, Bird, and Greengrass, I was able to solidify my tastes and differentiate myself from others exact views. I say make it specific so you each individually stand out. That's my two cents.

  • I'm not a big fan of Cameron even if I do love Avatar. My favorite director would have to be Mr. David Fincher, though. Is and will always be an amazing film-maker.

  • @Screeny nice including Orson Welles :D
I'd have to say director Robert Wise as well. He made "Sound of music" "west side story" and the original "the day the earth stood still" all great films.

  • In no particular order

Steven Spielberg (E.T., Catch Me If You Can)
Martin Scorsese (Gangs of New York)
    David Fincher (The Social Network)
    James Cameron (Terminator 2, Titanic)
Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception)

There are so many more I could list, but it would just get repetitive.
