Last night, fans finally got their first brief look at AMC's The Walking Dead spinoff entitled Fear the Walking Dead, slated to debut sometime this summer. Unfortunately, this 15-second teaser didn't give us a glimpse at any of the main characters. But it did give us a glimpse at Los Angeles just before the zombie apocalypse spreads throughout the globe.

While we wait for the next trailer to debut, we're breaking down everything we know about Fear the Walking Dead. To get you fully prepared for this highly-anticipated spinoff, we take a look at the characters, the story and the location. Take a look at our handy guide to all things Fear the Walking Dead below:

5 [1] Origins Of the Zombie Outbreak

zombie outbreak

The teaser sets up that there have been "reports of a strange virus" in five states, while showing a seemingly normal Los Angeles before the zombie epidemic starts to spread en masse. It remains unclear where the zombie outbreak first begins, or if this show will even address how it starts, but at least we'll seemingly get to see how residents of a major city like Los Angeles will handle the zombie plague. Hopefully we'll get to see how quickly or slowly society in general starts to crumble as the virus spreads like wildfire throughout the globe. You may recall that, at the end of The Walking Dead's first season, the CDC's Edwin Jenner (Noah Emmerich) told Rick that the virus is in everyone, and is triggered once a person dies. We'll have to wait and see if this is explored more in the spinoff.

4 [2] Good Morning, Los Angeles

Walking Dead Los Angeles

In the pilot episode for The Walking Dead, the show jumps forward approximately one month after Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) slips into a coma. Fear the Walking Dead is said to fill in that gap, so to speak, charting the origins of the undead apocalypse, although clear on the other side of the country, in Los Angeles, while Rick and his survivors are in Atlanta. Since the teaser mentions there have been reports of this virus in five states, it seems unlikely that the zombie epidemic actually starts in L.A., but it certainly will be intriguing to see how a massive populace like L.A., America's second largest city, deals with the zombie plague, especially in wealthier communities like Beverly Hills and the Hollywood Hills. On the flip side, the show could also explore how the zombie plague has affected inner-city ghettos as well. As far as we know right now, none of the primary cast members are part of L.A.'s elite citizens, but it could certainly be an interesting dynamic to explore as the series moves forward.

3 [3] No Comic Book Connections

Walking Dead Comic Book

Unlike The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead will have no ties to the original comic books created by Robert Kirkman, although it is still set in the world he created. Robert Kirkman actually co-created the series with showrunner Dave Erickson, and while it won't be connected to the comic books, Robert Kirkman did say that these new characters in Fear the Walking Dead may discover different things about the zombies that characters from The Walking Dead haven't picked up on yet, but both shows will stand on their own. Robert Kirkman also added that while Fear the Walking Dead will start a bit earlier than The Walking Dead, it will "eventually form a path running concurrently" with the original show.

2 [4] Meet the New Cast

Fear the Walking Dead Cast

The main characters for Fear the Walking Dead will be played by Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey. Cliff Curtis plays Sean Cabrera, a divorced high school teacher who is currently in a relationship with Kim Dickens' Miranda. Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey are playing Miranda's children, Nick, who is battling with his addiction to heroin, and Ashley, who is both ambitious and rebellious but has a strong head on her shoulders, as she prepares for college. Sean also has a son named Cody, who has anger management issues, but it hasn't been revealed who is playing him quite yet. Both of these parents are trying to deal with all of their kids' issues, along with those pesky zombies.

1 [5] Two Seasons Right Out of the Gate

Fear the Walking Dead 2 Season

AMC announced earlier this month that Fear the Walking Dead has been picked up for two seasons, with the first season comprised of six episodes set to debut this summer, with Season 2 airing in 2016. This is somewhat similar to the two-season order AMC issued to Better Call Saul last year, although the first season of that show received 10 episodes. However, both The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad were given shortened seven-episode first season orders, setting the stage for both shows to become massive hits. Of course, we'll have to wait and see how Fear the Walking Dead fares when it debuts this summer, but, given the enormous success of The Walking Dead, it's probably a safe bet to assume that Fear the Walking Dead will be just as big of a hit as its predecessor.
