If the rumored plot details released last week are any indication, 20th Century Fox's The Fantastic Four will be much different than its predecessor, 2005's Fantastic Four. Miles Teller, who stars as Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic, recently shed new light on the reboot, claiming that this story is much different in every aspect, while comparing its grounded tone to another 20th Century Fox superhero adventure, X-Men: First Class
"It's different in every way. All those actors were a lot older, their characters were in different places. The tone of this film is completely different: We don't have (original Fantastic Four star) Michael Chiklis in a big Styrofoam thing, and I think that [a more grounded approach] is what people are into - X-Men: First Class is doing that. You're dealing with these characters but you're making them real people in how they exist day-to-day. People wanted it to be taken more seriously than the kind of Dick Tracy, kitschy, overly comic-book world."
The young actor also addresses concerns of "superhero fatigue," since the film will be opening after Marvel movies such as Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man, not to mention other big-budget affairs like Jurassic World and Terminator Genisys. When asked if he thinks audiences may be tired of superheroes by the time The Fantastic Four opens next August, Miles Teller had this to say.
"At the end of the day, it depends on the product. Guardians of the Galaxy was a really fresh take on it, I think people responded to that. In terms of where we are in the schedule, we're playing the same weekend they were playing. But it's a big summer: You've got Avengers, and my buddy [Whiplash co-star J.K. Simmons] is in Terminator, and you got Jurassic World. There's a ton of movies out there, so if people have an appetite for it, they'll see a couple, and if not, maybe they'll just see one."
The Fantastic Four is currently in post-production, and with the release date just under a year away, it isn't clear when fans may get their first look at footage or even official photos from this superhero reboot. Will you be looking forward to The Fantastic Four?
