Veteran actor Andy Garcia is one of the most versatile and accomplished performers working in film today. He's probably best known for his work in classic gangster films like The Untouchables and The Godfather: Part III, which earned him an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor, but Garcia has also starred in a wide variety of fan favorite films including Black Rain, Dead Again, Internal Affairs, When A Man Loves A Woman, Confidence, Smokin' Aces and the Ocean's Eleven franchise. A long time supporter of the independent film movement, Garcia co-wrote, directed and co-starred opposite Dustin Hoffman and Bill Murray in '2005s The Lost City. The actor makes his return to independent films with his new movie City Island, opening on March 19th, which he both stars in and produced. The film is a funny and touching family tale about the secrets of the past catching up with the lies of the present, and accepting that nobody's perfect ... least of all your loved ones. We recently had an opportunity to sit down with Andy Garcia and his co-star, Steven Strait, to talk about the film and the characters that they play, the white lies that we tell our loved ones and what it was like for Garcia to have his real-life daughter play his onscreen daughter in the film. City Island is the story of a Bronx prison deputy and aspiring actor, Vince Rizzo (Garcia) who recognizes a prisoner (Strait) as his grown child whom he sired with another woman twenty years earlier. He decides to be the young man's guardian in Rizzo's family's home, but his efforts to conceal the nature of his relationship to the young man promptly begin to unravel the complex web of deceits which have worn the family fabric threadbare through the years. When Vince is asked to reveal his biggest secret during his drama class, he inadvertently sets off a chain of events that turns his mundane suburban life into total chaos. Vince takes great pains covering up his half-truths from his family, but soon it becomes clear that everyone, his hot-tempered wife (Julianna Margulies), college student daughter (Dominik Garcia-Lorido), charismatic acting partner (Emily Mortimer) and even his drama coach (Alan Arkin), all have secrets of their own. Everyone's furtive deceptions collide with hilarious results. Set on City Island, a quaint fishing community on the outskirts of the Bronx, this smart and charming comedy explores the absurd secrets and vices people choose to keep from their loved ones...and the realization that the truth is easier to cope with than well-intentioned white lies. Starring Andy Garcia, Julianna Margulies, Steven Strait, Emily Mortimer, Ezra Miller, Dominik Garcia-Lorido, Carrie Baker Reynolds, Hope Glendon-Ross and Alan Arkin. Directed by Raymond De Felitta, City Island opens in theaters on March 19th.
