Emma Stone Talks the Fate of Gwen Stacy in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

The actress reveals that Gwen saves Spider-Man more than he saves her in this sequel. When will we see the fate of Gwen Stacy play out?

The fate of Gwen Stacey is debatable. Is it a spoiler? Even though the storyline was introduced in 1973, some folks claim it is. Well, if you feel as strongly, than maybe you should stop reading. Major Spoiler, most people know that Gwen dies at the hands of the Goblin when he throws her off a bridge, snapping her spine before Peter Parker can save her. With actress Emma Stone an important and very popular part of the new movie franchise, many have wondered how her fate will play out in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Set photos reveal that she will wear her iconic 'death' outfit in the movie. On a bridge no less. But that doesn't necessarily mean she dies in this film, or even in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. We'd think it would have to eventually come, but maybe Marc Webb is changing the mythology to bring an unexpected twist to what most fans already expect will happen. Why wouldn't he want to keep audiences on their toes. Its no fun if you know exactly how something is going to happen.

Emma Stone recently spoke with Total Film about the impending fate of Gwen Stacy, revealing that this incarnation of the Marvel character is no damsel in distress. In fact, she can't think of too many times that Peter Parker comes to Gwen's rescue in the movie.

"[There's] not many. I can think of one important instance...She saves him more than he saves her. She's incredibly helpful to Spider-Man...He's the muscle, she's the brains."

Personally, that meant that she didn't participate in as many stunts as some of the other actors.

"I don't get to do too many crazy stunts. She gets herself in the middle of stuff, that's for sure! I do get webbed to a car. There's shit like that."

About her death, though? The actress isn't saying a word until after we've seen the movie.

What do you think? Do you want to see Gwen killed off sooner than later? Or do you think they should keep Emma Stone around for the duration of this franchise?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released May 2nd, 2014 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Felicity Jones, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

Let me clear this all up. SPOILER ALERT: Unless you haven't heard already, Gwen does die. And according to some pretty accurate information I got, the Goblin never actually kills her. Not is the comics or in the movie. Gwen's back/neck snaps because of how fast she was falling and the position in which Spider-Man caught her in. Basically, Peter killed Gwen. And Andrew Garfield is a much better Peter Parker than Tobey Maguire. I really do like Tobey, but the Spider Man movies call for the real, raw, stark emotions and truth. I feel that Tobey had this almost fakeness to his acting in those movies and I could never take Peter Parker seriously until TASM1&2

I did not like the way they handled Gwen's death. Having the gears of a clock tower cut the web she was hanging on seemed anti-climactic to me--I would rather the goblin have cut the web. It was very violent however as Spidey's web catches her but it streches just enough for her to smash into the concrete. All-in-all I did not like it, nor the film...Tobey Maguire is a much better Peter Parker...

@undeadslayer4 I really cant wait to see how they handle that whole situation. Not only was it a ground breaking moment in comics but a for spider man too. I don't have a LOT of faith in what I am seeing from ASM2 but of course I will give it a chance. Spider Man is one of the best IMO.

@undeadslayer4 I think it ultimately gives him more resolve to be the hero he was meant to be. Perhaps a little of both bitterness and strength to reach that point.

  14. undeadslayer4

@skywise yes but does that death make him more stronger or does it make him more bitter

@undeadslayer4 Well for the Red Wedding there was a LOT of foreshadowing that keen observers would have suspected all was not well with the Freys. But even if Gwen was dead before Spidey caught her...it was still the doubt in his own mind that made it so compelling. He isn't some infallible alien from a far away planet, he's just a human...a BOY really at that point and it ultimately shapes him as a person and a hero.

@undeadslayer4 most people would, I knew what you meant so you don't need to be sorry about it, most people don't like to admit when they are wrong.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about her death at this point. If it happens, the element of surprise just won't be there anymore. Now, if they kill off someone else in the same manner as Gwen Stacey off the bridge, then you might have my attention.

@undeadslayer4 Ridiculous you say? Maybe it wont happen on screen but you better do some research on the topic. It is very likely that Spiderman accidently snapped her neck.

    11 months agoby @undeadslayer4Flag

  29. Writer220

Her fate is to die by the hands of the Goblin so it doesn't matter when they do kill her off, either in TASM 2 or 3.
We all know that she doesn't last long in the world of Spiderman
