When people talk about black and white classics.. they will often say..It's a Wonderful life, Cassablanca, Citizen Kane etc.. and rightly so..however I hardly ever hear anyone mention John Ford's HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY. Mention it was made in 1941, and most of todays generation would run a mile..''Does it have fast cars?, mmmmm ''no'', ''Does it have any shaggin in it?, mmmmmm ''NO''..But what it does have is a fantastic story, wonderful acting, and anyone who doesnt shed a tear as got to be a real cold hearted so and so..

Take a large family of miners living in a welsh mining town and make a soap drama out of what happens in every day life... sounds pretty wank really doesnt it.. dont let that put you off..

Its a truely powerful and compelling drama that is not only an emtional rollercoaster of a ride.. but deserves to be in everbody's top ten.. and one to watch over and over again..

Mareen o Hara, Walter Pidgeon, and look out for a very young Roddy McDowall, yes thats him, the Planet of the Apes bloke..

Oh, and just for the record it won five academy awards..
