THE GOOD
Gregory Peck and Vincent Price - in the same film.
THE BAD
The only thing really lacking from this emotional epic is a remaster and a better audio mix. It could have benefited from some more special features as well.
THE FEATURE
After losing his parents and childhood sweetheart to tragedy, Francis Chisholm (Gregory Peck) joins the priesthood and devotes himself to a life of service and compassion. It isn't long before Father Chisholm's unorthodox beliefs raise eyebrows among his superiors, especially Bishop Angus Mealy (Vincent Price). He is sent to China to establish a Catholic parish among the Chinese. Here he encounters hostility, isolation, disease, poverty and a never-ending stream of set backs that humble him, but also make him more determined.
The Keys of the Kingdom spans six decades and two continents, and is most notable as the film that introduces audiences to newcomer Gregory Peck.

THE VIDEO
Being as this film is from 1944, the quality isn't prestine - but in no way hinders the film. It actually compliments it, to show how such an old, quiet, sincere film can still pack an emotional wallop.

THE FINAL WORD
Gregory Peck and Vincent Price are as always, excellent. This film is filled with great performances from Thomas Mitchell (Dr. Willie Tullock) Rose Stradner (Sister Maria-Veronica), Benson Fong (Joseph), and Roddy McDowall as the young Francis.
