THE GOOD
A funny DVD that highlights why this Man will eventually be the king of Late Night TV.
THE BAD
It would have been nice to have seen Conan not always on all the time. Overall, a paltry TV on DVD offering.
THE FEATURE
Late Night With Conan O'Brien: 10th Anniversary Special takes all the best face time between Conan and guests like Will Ferrell, Jack Black, Tom Hanks, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and others, and presents it here on this 63 minute DVD. Andy Richter even celebrates this 10th Anniversary Episode which looks back at all things Conan. We see the highlights, the low lights and everything in between. If you are a fan of this man as a Late Night host, you would be wise to get this disc because it essentially sums up Conan's career thus far.
THE EXTRAS
Comedy Shorts
There are 8 of these to choose from and they have titles like "Bob Dole Clutch Cargo" and "Stereotypes on Dirtbikes." These were pretty funny, just skits from past shows, but it was nice to see Conan's act evolving over time. While a lot of the humor was pretty stock stuff, he has a way of really getting into what he is doing that makes the skits and the humor seem genuine. This segment was one of the highlights of this disc.

Favorite Guest Moments
Six of these came on this disc and they contain people such as Will Ferrell and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Will Ferrell is just hellbent on dancing around in an ill fitting St. Patrick's Day outfit, while Arnold seems to have a lot of fun with Conan as they make fun of each other's personalities. I think this DVD might have been a lot more entertaining if it had just been a bunch of clips cut together, and no show commemorating the 10th Anniversary but there was probably no way that that was going to happen.
Conan On Location
Yet, more skits featuring the man with the red haired pompadour. Here we see Conan trying to mingle with celebrities and there is also a skit called "Conan in Ireland" which is pretty self explanatory. I don't know that Mr. O'Brien is so successful because he is terribly clever, I think his comedy works because it is both accessible and it seems like something anybody could do if they really tried.

THE VIDEO
Full Frame. If you have even seen Late Night with Conan O'Brien, or any late night talk show for that matter, than you already have a good idea about what this show looks like. It is bright, bubbly and just about everything you would expect from a talk show that is schilling for various products, movies, books, etc.. I call this look simple but not overstated.
THE AUDIO
2.0 Dolby Digital. Spanish Subtitles. Close Captioning. The sound on this DVD was fine. Afterall, it was created from shows that are only 10 years old. While that may sound like a long time ago, if they can make classic TV sound as good as it does, than it shouldn't be a surprise that the Late Night With Conan O'Brien: 10th Anniversary Special DVD sounds just fine too. While nothing really grabbed me about the audio, I don't think that it was supposed to.
THE PACKAGE
A large picture of Conan popping out of a retro television set is the main image on this red and yellow front cover. The back portion features another promo shot of Conan, some shots from the show over the years, a description, a Special Features list, and system specs. Overall, this is a very simply packaged DVD, but I am sure that a box set of Conan's shows would be a lot more in-depth.
THE FINAL WORD
I didn't really know what to expect from this DVD although I have wondered why more Late Night Shows aren't made available in this format. People can download them on iTunes, but I would think that if people could buy a year of Conan O'Brien shows in a various volumes, they probably would. In fact, considering that we now have Blu-ray discs that can hold 50 GB of information, something tells me that we are going to start seeing more Late Night TV available in that format and not just as one shots like we get with something such as the Late Night With Conan O'Brien: 10th Anniversary Special.
Depending on how much you love TV on DVD that will decide how much you need the Late Night With Conan O'Brien: 10th Anniversary Special. Like I said, I certainly recommend it if you are a fan of the performer, although you might find this release a tad paltry.
