One of those amazing gifts was the dvd tie-in to the film, Tales of the Black Freighter. This DVD, is an animated version of the comic used throughout the comic. It also includes the auto-biography of Hollis Mason, Under the Hood, in the form of a TV special, lets get to reviewing.
Tales of the Black Freighter is about a shipwrecked sailor, who constructs a raft of logs and his dead shipmates to go after the ghostly ship that destroyed his sea-vessel. But is the Black Freighter real, or a state of mind? Your questions may be answered or you may be left scratching your head, but Tales of the Black Freighter is an extremely well crafted (and violent, really really REALLY violent) animated short that must be seen to be believed.
Under the Hood is a very well made faux doc*mentary that really answers some questions you may have not found answers to in the Watchmen film. It goes through the history of the superhero, with some very interesting interviews with people like Hollis Mason, and even Moloch the Mystic. There are also commercials that only readers of the graphic novel will understand.
The extras are good although for some reason they have a commercial for the straight to video green lantern movie, yay :(.
So, all in all, this is a must see for fans of the film and graphic novel, and it's something you might want to watch a lot in order to get the little winks and nudges to the graphic novel, so good replay value.
