Carrie's story is rather simple, she gets picked on by her fellow students, and abused by her mother, she also just happens to have telekinetic powers. At first Carrie doesn't notice that she has these powers, but as the movie progresses, she realizes what she can do. The film is a slow build up the ending, which has got to be one of the best endings for a horror film. Throughout the whole film, her powers are subtle this is why the ending works so much, its simply because her powers aren't used much in the film, and when they are used, its only subtle. Now I have to comment on Carrie's relationship with her mother, Carrie gets abused by her mother, who happens to be a catholic. Her mother slaps her, and beats her throughout the whole film, this just adds to the whole movie. Her mother think's that every little thing Carrie does is a sin. Not matter where Carrie goes, she always seems to be getting bullied by everyone, her life is a living hell. Now Carrie does get her revenge eventually, which is the ending of the film, I won't spoil it for you though.
Now I'm going to talk about the acting in this film, the acting is impressive in this film, considering it was made back in 1976. The actors are all great in their roles, but the two actors I have to point out are, Sissy Spacek who play's Carrie and Piper Laurie who plays her mother. Sissy Spacek does such a great job in her role, she makes you believe in her character, and that she actually does have these telekinetic powers, she makes you feel for her character and what she has to go through. Now Piper Laurie does an equally impressive job in her role as Carrie's mother. Piper Laurie's performance as the mother, is quite amazing, it's also emotionally. She makes you believe that her character is just looking out for Carrie, that all she wants is to help her, I'd say Piper Laurie did a better job than Sissy Spacek, that's not to say Sissy Spacek was horrible; I just thought that Piper Laurie was a little better in her role.
As far as the actually DVD goes, I'm disappointed it doesn't actually come with anything except for a small booklet. There are no special features on it at all, the only thing it has is the original trailer. It would've been nice to see how they made the film; it also would've been nice to have commentary from some of the actors, and the director. The DVD is just disappointing, I'd say buy it only because the actual movie itself is just so great.
Now as far as the Audio goes in the film, its top notch and I didn't have any problems with it, it was loud enough, even when it's just talking going on between characters. The audio is great for an old film like this.
Now as far as the video presentation goes, I was a little disappointed with it because I just feel they could've done a better job, after all they did such a terrific job with the audio. You can see everything fine, it's just they could've touched up a few things and made it even better, I guess it's decent but it could've been so much better.
Carrie is the perfect film for horror fans, I'd recommend you check it out if you're a fan of horror, or if you're just into movies period. Another thing about this film is that it's based on the Stephen King Novel of the same name.
