A great cast and performances propel this film from mediocre to above average. While the plot is slightly predictable and the story average, the performances of Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling make the movie worth seeing. Of course Anthony Hopkins proves yet again why he is an award winning actor. He is believable in the part of Ted Crawford, a highly intelligent, rich man on trial for the murder of his wife. Although not quite as convincing but very good in the part of a lawyer in the district attorney’s office, Ryan Gosling proves that he has matured as an actor. I look for him to go on to bigger and better movies. He held his own alongside film veteran Sir Anthony Hopkins.

The film has its inconsistencies and slow moments; therefore it is not quite as engrossing as it could have been. However the good outweighs the bad making it an entertaining film worth watching.

This movie is slightly above average but does not quite make it to outstanding. I would have rated it 3.75 stars if I could, but since I can’t 3.5 stars will have to do. If you want an entertaining film with very good performances, then I recommend this one.

Thanks for reading.

I sort of liked this but 3.5 stars sounds about right. Great review.
