This is the "300" of vampire movies. This is a fresh and bloody vampire movie that deserves to be seen by everyone who loves vampires. I think that vampires in movies have become too emotional and tragic. UNDERWORLD may have been good but you have to admit that there were a lot of tragic and emotional heroes in it.

This movie takes the vampire genre back to the old school, bloody, and violent vampires (think FROM DUSK TILL DAWN but without a sense of humor and a lot of tension). and it has some good scares too, This is a perfect movie to see for Halloween or to watch if you need a good vampire flick. The cast did an awesome job and there was a lot of scenes that made you feel for the characters.

This idea should've been made into a movie a long time before now but at least it was made in an era of excellent special effects and extreme gore. This is the second movie directed by David Slade (his first movie was the extremely disturbing HARD CANDY) and he proves that he has a talent for creating tension.

The special effects were top notch and so was the gore (and yes there is a ton of gore so be prepared for some blood). think of it like hills have eyes in the snow. I thought that I had this movie figured out half way through but instead of going the predictable way the story has a lot of surprises around the end.

Overall, this is an excellent horror movie and it may be one of the coolest vampire movies to come out in the past decade. Recommended

    I like the ones that are more human. You know, like the vampires that are in Interview with the Vampire and Queen of the Damned. Those are my two favorite vampire movies of all time, so it goes without saying that I'd bring them up in this conversation. LOL!
