After buying Ulimate Avengers upon its release, I discovered a sequel was in the works. When this sequel was released not long after, I found myself buying that one as well. The only reason I'm glad I did is because I now have the set.

Ultimate Avengers 2, as I said in my overall quote, is errily similar to its predecessor, pitting the team against the same villain, only in a different setting, this one being the African nation of Wakanda, which is only an excuse to bring in Black Panther. However, it's drastically different, because it does not resemble the comics in any way, instead creating an interesting yet forgettable, and quite frankly, unnecessary new story.

When the alien invaders from the first movie return to invade Wakanda, Panther has no choice but to call on the help of outsiders and turn to the Avengers. The best thing about this movie is seeing Black Panther in this animated style along with the rest of the characters, but Panther wasn't even introduced in the Ultimate Universe yet.

The creators would have been better off waiting until Millar and Hitch's second, and last, volume of the the Ultimates was finished to give us a sequel. We would have had to wait a while, for the series had many delays, but it would've been worth it to see that adapted like the first volume was.

The movie's action sequences and animation are just as good as the last film, and all the voice actors return to thier respective roles, which is a plus, but the story itself is a hit-and-miss. It's a great story in itself, but when its predecessor so successfully turned the comics into a film, it's disapointing to see the turn this one goes.

Even the extras are practically the same, giving us similar featurettes and an identical DVD-Rom game with the "What Avenger Are You?"

The replay value is not as great as the last either, and you'll find yourself watching it once, and that's probably it, especially if you're a hard-core fan of the comic series. What happens toward the end of the film is such a turn on, it's hard to comprehend what was going though the creators minds when they made this.

In the end, Ultimate Avengers 2 fails to live up to its predecessor. It's an exciting film, but the creators must have wanted to rush a sequel out to your local Wal-Mart, because it's not a sequel that delivers and delves far away from what the original so successfully did.

6/10-Watchable
