The camera angles, and special effects in this SciFi classic are simply amazing considering when the movie was made. Not only that, there is a not so subtle message and moral to the story which makes it a cut above your average SciFi flick. Not to mention the fact, that in certain circles, some would say that this 'art' imitates 'life'. Many believe that we've already been approached by extra-terrestrial beings, and this movie properly portrays what the "first-contact" would probably be like if an alien spaceship were to land on the ellipse in D.C.. There are many political overtones throughout the movie, filmed during the tumultuous era of the 1950's and the 'red' scare. A message, even brought in peace, reguarded with fear and apprehension. Personally, this is one of my all-time favorite films because of the depth behind the performances and the seriousness of the commentary.
