**MovieWeb doesn't have a film page listed for this movie, only a DVD page. So I am forced to review the DVD.**

Having seen the original 1975 Jaws and loving it, having the unfortunate experience of watching Jaws 2 and hating it, Jaws 3(D) came along in 1983 to very poor reception. It is by no means good, but frankly I don't think it's as awful as some say.

The movie takes place in SeaWorld where, of course, the animals are experiencing some disturbances by, you guessed it, the legendary, somehow resurrected Jaws, the toothy great white shark. Dennis Quaid stars as Mike, the son of the earlier Police Chief Brody. Due to his family's experiences, he does NOT go in the water.

You can tell right where it's going from the start. There will be innocent patrons to the park trapped as Jaws attacks the civilians. There will be that odd cloudy, red blood wherever Jaws goes. There will be a bunch of screaming. There will be that unforgettable "Dun dun, Dun dun" theme music. It's all here in unsurprising fashion.

The movie was originally presented in 3-D, the red-blue kind. So in watching this, it was fun to catch all of the silly things floating or flying in front of the camera. Naturally that includes severed body parts, splashing water, and maybe even a fired harpoon gun.

But Jaws III plays up the camp and silliness, and I think purposefully. It isn't scary AT ALL. There is no tension at all in the movie. But I think when they realized how little this was like the terror in the first Jaws, they added in the 3-D gimmick and tried to make it silly and fun.

And I enjoyed the laughableness of it all! It WAS corny, and goofy, and cheesy, and fake, but in its own self-realization, I think they did the best they could. But through all of the fun (at least that I had), it is a rotten piece of cinema. There is no real reason to see this movie. I'm basically defending a piece of predestined trash in it's attempts to be better than it knew it was. I think this one is better than Jaws 2 (maybe because Spielberg's name is not attached...). But the script is terrible, the location is laughable, the characters are dull, the effects look flat and lifeless (ironic, huh), and, above everything else, it isn't even remotely scary, frightening, or terrifying.

I guess no Jaws sequel or remake will ever get the fear aspect right. I think even prime special effects today couldn't recreate Spielberg's original terror. Wanna know why? Because he didn't use any. This is a rip-off of a fabulous movie, attempting only to play off of the brand name.

In closing, I did enjoy some aspects of the movie. But I think this movie has a false and disgracing title. JAWS sounds terrifying! This ought to be called Mouth 3-D.
