So before I start my "DVD Review" I'd like to clearly state that I viewed this film through streaming (not illegally). So I do not have a copy of a DVD to review. But damn MovieWeb does not have a MOVIE section for every movie (which makes no sense), so here goes nothing...

I actually have seen this movie before, whenever it came out a few years ago. I rented the DVD, and I actually thought it was good. But I suppose as I get older, my taste in films matures as well as myself. I now see this movie for what it really is- which is not horrible, but really just a low budget movie that tries to hard to scare, when it could have easily been scarier without the "scary" occurrences. What does this mean? Well, here, before I go into detail about the movie, let me explain about how this movie tries to scare us. Now, to non-movie-makers, this may confuse you, but follow me. So, what Death of a Ghost Hunter's editors did is poorly overlay a clip of a child standing there, on the screen to make it look slightly see-through, like a ghost may be. It looks very cheesy, and does not scare when the music tells us we should be scared. There are a few other parts in this film that are creepy. But those are more suspense scenes. When they actually show the ghosts, the movie just does not deliver.

This movie is about a ghost hunter paid a large sum of money to go test a house's paranormal level. Her, and a small crew enter the house and stay there for three or four days. Of course, the house actually is haunted, more so than this paranormal investigator has ever seen before! (Cliche).

But what was horrible about the movie was really the back story. Now, apparently a woman killed herself and her family in there. But it was never proven to be her or someone else. Most people feel it was a murder/suicide. Others believe that she came home one day to see her family dead, so she committed suicide. The real problem is the end. Semi-spoiler here (it's not a big deal)... But it was a murder/suicide, but that is clearly shown by the opening scene. The ending scene shows WHY she killed her family and herself. Sh*t, with an explanation like the one this movie shows at the end, I might do the same. I won't say what it is, but I will say it is pretty brutal, and did not really fit the mood of the movie at all. It seemed to be a light, non-heavy ghost story. But the end is just graphic, and distasteful. Now this is coming from a guy who liked The Human Centipede movies, and A Serbian Film, but this movie... It just did not fit the mood, which is why I did not like the severity in this case.

The acting by the lead actress is decent. Nothing special, but not bad at all. But one of the female co-stars was seriously laughable. She was so off, and talked in a voice pitch that never really seemed to fit the tone of the film. This distracted away from some parts that could have been creepier if her presence was removed.

See this movie if you're desperate for a ghost story, but if not, skip it. The script-writing was decent, but poor directing, acting, a low budget, and sloppy editors dragged this movie down.
