THE FEATURE
The Little Polar Bear: Lars and the Little Tiger is a simply drawn tale of Lars the Polar Bear, who travels to various places making friends as he goes. During his adventures he befriends, Nemo the cat and Theo the tiger. Lars story is a universal one of friendship, loyalty and learning to believe in yourself. I really liked the hybrid style of animation used on this DVD. It seems to be half anime and half traditional 2-D animation.
THE EXTRAS
Animators and Sound Effects Behind the Scenes Featurettes

As the creators of The Little Polar Bear: Lars and the Little Tiger are from another country, these featurettes are subtitled. What I liked about them is that they aren't really made for kids. As someone who is making his own animated movie (1985-1986), I found these very technical looks at animation and sound FX to be quite informative.
THE VIDEO
Widescreen Version presented in a format preserving a theatrical exhibition aspect ratio. Enhanced for widescreen TVs. This animation is very simple without looking like it. The characters both in how they are drawn and the "types" they embody are very personable. This is the kind of DVD that looks like it was effortlessly done.

THE AUDIO
Dolby Digital. English, French and Spanish Dolby Surround Sound. The sound on this DVD was good. I didn't have to turn up the volume levels that much, but I also noticed that there wasn't a great deal of ambient sound. Most of the time it seemed that the animators just let the characters talk and didn't make the viewer that aware of the background sounds.
THE PACKAGE
A moderately colored picture featuring Lars, Theo and the rest of the gang grace this front cover. The back features some shots from the actual cartoon, a description of the story, a Special Features listing, a cast list and some minor technical specs. While this over is very simple, I think it does a solid job of telling the story of this DVD.
THE FINAL WORD
I really enjoyed this DVD. There is something quite cute about Lars, Nemo and Theo and I think that kids will become very engaged with all the characters that make up this DVD. The Little Polar Bear: Lars and the Little Tiger was such an enjoyable film, that I am adding it to my collection simply because I think I am going to watch it again and again. There is a lot to be learned from this story both in an animation and a personal sense.
