THE FEATURE
Nancy Drew: The Original Mystery Movie Collection contains four films from this young, super sleuth that are sure to excite fans and mystery lovers alike. The four films in this collection are:
- Nancy Drew, Detective
- Nancy Drew - Reporter
- Nancy Drew - Trouble Shooter
- Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase
As you already know, each of these four films features Nancy getting into some situation where something doesn't seem right to her and she sets about fixing things. In Nancy Drew, Detective an heiress goes missing and Nancy knows that she can help find her. Nancy Drew - Reporter sees her getting to the bottom of things when somebody is slyly slipped some poison. Nancy Drew - Trouble Shooter is probably the best film in this set, and it gives us Nancy trying to prove the innocence of somebody who is close to her family. Lastly, Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase is one of the more adventurous offerings and it gives us Nancy at her most adventurous. There is peril, there is fear and there is, you guessed it, a secret tunnel.

THE VIDEO
Standard Version. All of these movies are in black and white. Presented in a format preserving the aspect ratio of their original theatrical exhibitions. The look of these films is actually what leaves a little to be desired. The picture seems to shake a bit, there is a some dirt on the picture from time and in a lot of ways it seems that the prints have been effected negatively in the compression. What surprises me the most is that this is a Warner Bros. release and usually their titles look a lot better.

THE PACKAGE
A slicked up Nancy Drew is presented on the front cover of this DVD holding a magnifying glass. This thing has a real old time, news, sleuth-like look to it that is quite charming. The back cover gives us all black and white images from this movie (this way consumers won't think that it's in color), a nicely written description of the films in this two disc set, a cast list and system specs. They have stored both discs inside one amaray case.
THE FINAL WORD
I was pretty excited to get to watch Nancy Drew: The Original Mystery Movie Collection. What struck me the most was how good Bonita Granville was as the title character. I don't know what I was expecting but based on what I have seen of the recently released Nancy Drew movie, I much prefer Granville's portrayal as opposed to Emma Roberts. Granville is just so eager in this role, yet she makes that aspect of her character work for this part. Juxtapose that with Emma Roberts, and it seems like she is trying to be this laid back character as opposed to actually being the character. This is simply just the difference between acting styles. Granville is from and older school and Roberts takes a more present day approach.
Whatever you feel, you wouldn't be wasting your time watching all four films in the Nancy Drew: The Original Mystery Movie Collection.
