Berserk is a dark anime that follows Guts a young mercenary who becomes allies with the leader of the Band of the Hawk Griffith, after an intense sword fight. With Guts at the front lines and Griffith in command no military stands a chance against them and the Band of the Hawk on their quest for status.
This is just a little information on the creator of Berserk. Director and creator Kentarou Miura was born in Chiba City, Japan. Kentarou is a left handed artist and writer. Not too many left handed artists. He worked on mangas throughout school. He even had some published in his schools magazine. He wanted to go to an art school after high school and was granted admission into the art college Nihon University after he submitted one of his stories. His story was later nominated for best new story in the Weekly Shonen Magazine. It featured many different mangas that were done by other writers and artist. Kentarou had one other story published in the magazine but it was stalled and later dropped after a disagreement with one of the editors. His career had hit a wall. Until 1988 Kentarou had made a come back with his 48 page manga Berserk. Kentarou won a prize from the Comic Manga School because of the book. In 1997 Kentarou supervised the production of Berserk and 25 episode series and various art books were released based on the book. Not only did Berserk go from book to anime it also was made into a video game in 1999. Kentarou made contributions to the game Sword of the Berserk: Guts Rage for the Sega Dream Cast. Berserk went on to spanned 33 books. In 2002 Kentarou Miura received the second place in the Osamu Tezuka (Osamu Tezuka created Astro Boy and Kimba the White Wolf. And is considered the father of anime) Culture Award of excellence for his master piece Berserk.
The Berserk DVD comes with six discs. Each one has its own individual artwork on it. The case its self is cool. It holds 2 discs in the front and back of the DVD along with a middle slot that holds two discs. The artwork on the cover is very cool. Everything was remastered. So it looks and sounds great. It features production sketches, text less opening, TV spots, Text less closing. Story boards, Original TV opening, art gallery, Forces full version, Outtakes, TV opening encore version, paint it Berserk, interview with Kentaro Miura which is cool and Video interview with Producer Toshio Nakatani. I do recommend watching it with the in Japanese with the English subtitles. The English track isn’t bad but sometimes when they stop talking their mouth still moves.
It is a great DVD its worth checking out. This is one that should be in every anime fans collection. This definitely is in the top five for greatest animes. It has been my favorite for many years. There are not a lot out there you can compare Berserk too. I recommend it. There is a lot of violence in this movie. But it also has a great story. I hope that you will enjoy this as much as I have.

Wow, didn't realize anybody else had seen this. Most anime enthusiasts think it begins with something like Naruto and ends with something else like Inuyasha. Guts is just one of the coolest and craziest characters out there... Also, Righthand--they made another Berserk game for PS2 but it sadly remained in Japan. Also, if you like the darker stuff, check out "Gantz". I have my gripes with it (especially with how gratuitous it is), but it is one of the more interesting anime series out there. By the way, good review, and I fully appreciate you going into some of its development from one medium to another. Nice to know someone else appreciates this series.
