THE GOOD
hmmmm...Sharon Stone still looks damn good. That's about it.
THE BAD
A story that's missing all the great elements from the original.
THE FEATURE
Sharon Stone is back in the role that made her a household name. She plays Catherine Tramell, a writer whose novels are eerily similar to a death that happened in real life. The police can't arrest her because they have no hard evidence, so she keeps getting away. Catherine's obsession with raising the level of risk with each man she kills may just go too far.

The story was better than I was expecting, but it was still quite uninteresting and predictable. Basic Instinct 2 is simply unnecessary. I loved the original. Sex, violence, mystery, Douglas. I really enjoyed it. This sequel is just pointless and it doesn't help that the 116 minutes feels like it's never going to end. Even the sex scenes are uninteresting. It's more than 10 years later and the sex scenes are actually less provocative. It's obvious that this movie was made because Stone either needs the money or she just enjoys hearing herself talk dirty and have sex on the big screen. It's probably a mixture of both. Stone still looks amazing, in my opinion, but this movie is undoubtedly not.
THE EXTRAS
"Between the Sheets" Featurette

A good look at some behind the scenes footage. One part in particular gives us a cool insight into the filming of the opening car scene.

Commentary

Director Michael Caton-Jones (was Stone too busy to make any comments?) tells us about his direction with this sequel and how he wanted to keep the same feel of the original but also wanted it to be a different, stand alone film. If you really dug this movie then check it out because Caton-Jones gives some good information.

Deleted and Extended Scenes

Lots of slow scenes that were thankfully cut. One scene does give us some insight into Catherine's first sexual experience and there is a slightly different alternate ending, but neither are as interesting as they sound.
THE VIDEO
2.40:1 Widescreen. Basic Instinct 2 is shot in London and it's a very different look than the London we Americans are use to seeing in movies. The buildings and sets look very sexy and slick.
THE AUDIO
English 5.1 Dolby Digital. French and English subtitles.
THE PACKAGE
We see Sharon Stone sitting in a building with her legs crossed (an obvious reference to the famous scene in the original). It's a fairly boring cover with an uninteresting tagline.
THE FINAL WORD
If you're like me and you dug the original, then you're probably interested in checking this out. Well, let me save you the money. It's not worth it.

I agree with you and I think I rated this film one star. To me it is almost unwatchable. Good review.
