Definitely Is one of the better non-glorifying of street crime flicks that you can pick up on the market filled with powerful and nail driving performances from the whole cast. This shows the bitter reality of street life and not the awesomeness and big shot appeal that many films for years have done to make it more appealing to younger audiences. This is definitely a stand alone something different. This is definitely a sad and depressing look at how peoples lives can be shattered and fall apart.

Lets take a quick run through. This is a story about three different cops whos lives intervene and will never be the same. Sal played by Hawke is a cop who is in need of money to pay for a new house so he can make room for twins on the way and the rest of his family. His wife is sick and the house they are in is making her sicker. He is desperate and is looking for anything that will solve his problems. During the raids into apartments he searches for cash to steal among other things. While his friend Ronny is trying to help him and make him realize what hes got and how myopic he is to the things he already has. There were a couple scenes which carried powerful emotion that helped make the characters real and moved the story along well.

Tango played by Cheadle was very well done. This is the story of a man with a broken life. His wife is divorcing him or already has I can't remember at the moment.. well he has gone undercover and is losing his cool he doesn't even feel like protecting other cops and feels like hes one of them as Cas played by Snipes is going to be taken down by a big city cop he tries to protect him mean while there is unease and restlessness in the gang as other members think Cas has gone soft by protecting a kid from death by being blamed for being a rat. The gang members turn on each other and Tango does not want to put up with it any longer. This was a great performance done by only the best I give you props.

Now is the saddest cop of them all eddie played by Richard Gere outstanding performance. The underrated actor that gets neglected when awards season comes along when all he does is make everyone else shine. This is a suicidal police officer who is looming towards his final day as a police officer when hes about to retire he has to show the ropes to a rookie police officer during the day and at night he finds solace in the arms of a prostitute which you get a sense of how alone he really is and she doesn't love him nor could she. He is not the cop that a person should look up to as he has really lost hope in everything and thinks its pointless and in the end crime doesn't stop. When a routine hold up goes array Eddie is stuck in his head taking the blame when the other police try to smug the truth. Eddie finds him self facing the barrel of his gun contemplating if he should pull the trigger and in the ultimate act of redemption he rises above his self loathing and do the better thing.

This is definitely for people who are into gritty cop films and interested in street life. Antoine Fuqua is one of the best at these type of films great to see another from him. This dvd was great. I say a possible buy and strongly
