THE GOOD
It's nice to see that 20th Century Fox is going all the way with this show.
THE BAD
No extra features.
THE FEATURE
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea: Season 4, Vol. 1 continues the adventures aboard the Seaview. In this 13 episode installment we follow Admiral Nelson and Captain Crane as they navigate the rough seas going in and out of trouble, adventure and just about everything else. This season we see them going up against gorillas, time-travelling androids, puppet masters and just about everything else that creator Irwin Allen could possibly think up.
Also showcased in this set is a look at technology from a 1960s perspective. By today's standards a lot of this stuff looks primitive but one cannot deny the foresight that went into creating this show.

THE EXTRAS
No extras came with this release.
THE VIDEO
Full Screen - 1.33:1. These shows looked really good on DVD. The colors have really held up and I didn't notice anything that look odd or ill timed. It seems that 20th Century Fox has done a fine job of cleaning these things up. The colors are really strong and they have an almost painterly quality. If it was possible to get these episodes on Blu-ray I'll bet they could look even better.
THE AUDIO
Dolby Digital. English Stereo. French and English Mono. Subtitled in English. Close Captioned. The audio on this release was really well put together. Nothing blew me away but everything sounded solid. I didn't need to turn up the audio that loud and things sounded really sharp across all the discs. Good work, Fox Home Entertainment!
THE PACKAGE
The front of this color cover features the main stars with a shot of the Seaview heading to the bottom of the ocean. The back gives people more shots from this show, a description of what it's about and technical specs. All 3 discs that make up this set are stored in this amaray case with more artwork as well as episode listings and descriptions.
THE FINAL WORD
I was really excited that MovieWeb gave me this release to review. I am such a big a fan of "classic" television that it made my positive review a no brainer. Sadly, having reviewed a lot of the seasons of this show, I think the assets people at 20th Century Fox might have overextended themselves with the early releases. Those DVDs were packed with extras and all we have here are just the 3 discs by themselves.
All that said, if you have been collecting this show on DVD then you need to get Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea: Season 4, Vol. 1 for your collection.
