Friday the 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives DVD: Review By Rock

Part VI is were Jason becomes immortal by a frankenesque opening due the mentally ill Tommy Jarvis ,( you cant call yourself sane if you dig up a corpse and start beating crazy on it with a metal pole ) and gets back to his old killing ways , and also raps up the story arc involving Jarvis for the franchise

Ive always enjoyed this one but in my opinion it’s the weakest of the series , it comes even after Jason goes to hell for me. It’s the most b-film of the franchise like Tom McLoughlin points out it would work quite well in B&W , it’s also the only tru horromedy of the franchise , even if i like that genre it’s one of the main reason why it’s the weakest. To many jokes and hilarious situations just dont fit Jason or the franchise , just 1 or 2 goofball characters and thats enough.

It’s seems to me Tom McLoughlin was trying to ad a strong humor factor to it , just like they were doing with The Freddy Krueger character at that time . But since Jason dint talk and the character was a bit untouchable he aded humor every were else , even in the kills , The scene that dont work at all for me in the entire franchise is when you see a happy face in the blood stain after the guy gets his head shove in it. Some stuff the kids say dho his damn hilarious

Also this is the tamest of the franchise , there really isnt a lot of blood or gore and the kill scenes are shot pretty fast and you barely see something,What piss me off was that after watching the deleted scene i realise they were all the final bits that were missing to the kill scenes , i hate when they do that , thank god they created the unrated cut for dvd’s. No t&A at all , cute babes but no T&A , man has a kid i was just waiting for that black chick from Days of our live to show us the goodies , shame really. I always felt Tom McLoughlin was thinking elev and 12 years old would watch it and he dint want to scare and disgust them that much. No T&A and no blood and gore in the kills take away some magic of the Friday the 13th franchise

But even with all the flaws in this there is still plenty of things I enjoy . The RV crash is fantastic , really nicely shot and Jason on top of a crash birning RV is in my opinion the best and most beautifull still shot of the entire franchise , I enjoy that entire sequence to how jason kills both kids in the r.v to how the crash was shot. How he snaps the sherrif in 2 is pretty cool ( was nice to see in the making off how simple it was made) .I also enjoy a lot the first 2 kids , it’s pretty gritty and creepy how Jason kills them with that big pole , when he shove it tru the window it looks like it was made for 3-d , but the end do make it look like a big plug for American express , that scene also for me has the breaktrough perfomance of the film , It’s the first film Tony Goldwyn is in , mostly known for the vilain in Ghost , He may not be considered a has big of a star has Kevin Bacon , but i enjoy seein him on screen has much has bacon , Hey is the only actor i know who has been a victim of Jason and Dexter.

I also enjoy how sissy gets grab from the window and gets her head twisted .

Some of the humor works pretty well , specially some lines coming from the two same boys. When they are hiding under the beds and one ask the other ” So what were going to be when you grow up.” always make me luahg and the look the other does makes me piss in my pants.

Alice Cooper’s song He’s back , is quite kick ass , and will stay in your head days to come , love that song.

for once i can also review the features , the only one i dint watch was The comentary doubt i ever will , i pretty picky when it comes to comentaries that entertain me

Has you watch the making of , earing Tom McLoughlin speak about the film , you would think everyone tells him this is he created a horror masterpeice and the best of the entire franchise , I had mix feelings watching this , it kinda made appreciate more his vision also hate more some of the desicions he took with it

I enjoyed Meeting mr.Voorhees , I know if he would of went with that ending , people would of hated it , but in my opinion it would of fit quite well for the kind of film he wanted to make . I would of like the idea of seeing jason’s dad , you know the coolest thing that could of happen is that if Alice Cooper would of played the role of the dad , he would of been both freddy and Jason’s dad, it would of fited him quite well

the crystal lake massacre part 3 was ok for a doc*mentary spoof , could of been way funnier dho if it would of been better writen and acted

Lost takes from camp blood part 6 : wow bulin maybe it’s the fact it’s only the first i watch , but i think your a bit harsh with these. They are nicely made , they feel like indie horror shorts , i really enjoyed the ending of this one , dont really get why the killer doesnt wear a hockey mask , but at least he walks like Jason and they aded the familiar 13th score to it , am looking forward to seeing the other ones

like i said this film works well for a horromedy , the question is did this franchise need a entrie like that , but here it is so enjoy
