The premise for this movie had real promise. I mean, Will Smith has been a hero of mine ever since 'Independance Day' and I really thought he delivered the goods in an Oscar worthy performance in 'iRobot' among others. This movie, is not his best work. I am sure when he was filming it, that he probably thought it would turn out well when in final edit. But no. Skip this one if you like Will Smith. If you are looking for a movie that's an action packed love-story try something like 'Spiderman' or 'Daredevil' and stick to movies that don't get their title from John Hanc*ck. I put this one on the same shelf as Shaq in "Steel" and Halle Berry's "Catwoman". Liked the suit though, and especially the bit at the end where he goes free-falling off the building with a raven following him in mid-flight. Don't get me wrong, it was a beautiful movie to "look at" especially if you're still in junior-high. There have been movies that pulled off the tortured atypical superhero with a lot more depth and comedy value, it should be renamed:

I give you just another "Superhero Movie" [2008]

No, it wasn't a great movie. I give it a 3. The "villain" with the hook hand was annoying as hell. The funny parts were funny, but then we get into a romance film who just so happens to star a superhero. The "revelation" about his powers was confusing. Will Smith as a superhero should have equaled epic, and all we got was a disappointing flick that can't make up its mind as to whether it's a superhero comedy or drama. If they had fused the two together better, it would've been better, but they didn't, so it wasn't. The performances were the only thing saving it from a 1 star film. Better writers or director, or both, need to be involved if they're planning on a sequel. The movie was good, but not as good as it could have been, i.e. not great

C'mon, to say it was a 'great movie' is to compare it to other, 'strangely similar' movies. It doesn't break any ground with cool special effects, the acting was barely mediocre, and at the end of the story the average non-superhero "badguy" slash prison escapee manages feats of dazzling inhuman strength completely out of the blue, in a pitched anticlimatic battle which ends insulting both my intelligence and any reasonable attempt to understand the movie's voice. Which movie were you watching? It's a great rental for the kids though, I'll give you that.

Great movie. I've watched it twice on dvd since it came out. Another great performance by Smith, he know how to make a good movie.

If you hate the movie, maybe you shouldn't give it straight 5's except for the overall.

Oh, and btw, this was a great movie.
