Now, THIS is what I can call a funny comedy. I'm not a big fan of this genre and most of the comedy films out there I personally find rude and crude. This is one exception.

Dudley Moore is at his finest in his role as Arthur, a millionaire who "does nothing". He is not close to his parents. His father only cares about marrying him off to a girl he doesn't even love. Arthur is threatened with being left penniless unless he does what his father says.

John Gielgud plays Hobson, his personal butler, whom Arthur is closer to than his father. Gielgud won an oscar for his role in this movie, and I can see why. He is perfect as the British snob, who banters back and forth with Arthur but deep down loves him like a son.

Liza Minnelli plays Linda, a girl who Arthur first encounters in a clothing store stealing a tie. It's love at first sight for Arthur, and the rest of the film displays the budding relationship and the roadblocks that are in the way of these two being happy. A typical romantic comedy, yes, but the chemistry between Moore and Minnelli is obvious, and the two actors work well together on screen.

Moore's comedic timing is flawless. I only wish he was still around to continue making films that make us laugh. Minnelli does a fantastic job as well, as usual.

This movie proves that you don't need to have obscene language and tons of sexual references in order to make one laugh. Sometimes keeping it clean and simple is the best route.

If you have yet to see this classic comedy, go out and rent it. You won't be disappointed.
