Disney has plans to develop a live-action adaptation of the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast titled The Beast. The studio has hired Trance scribe Joe Ahearne to write the re-imagining.

The classic French tale follows Belle whose father is taken captive by the Beast after being lost in the woods. The young woman agrees to trade her life for her fathers and ends up falling in love with him. This releases a witch's curse on the Beast, which turned him into the monster.

Guillermo del Toro is also set to direct a different adaption of Beauty and the Beast, which has Emma Stone starring. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are producing.

No production schedule has been released.

Beauty and the Beast comes to theaters March 17th, 2017 and stars Emma Watson, Luke Evans, Dan Stevens, Emma Thompson, Josh Gad, Kevin Kline. The film is directed by Bill Condon.

the thing I find really funny, it's not Emma Stone who will be playing Belle in the Guillermo Del toro movie, It's Emma Watson. Can't wait for the Guillermo Del Toro remake, Disney should not make a live action one.

I thought that there was a new TV version, however I would prefer Del Toro's take on it.

Even though I'm getting sick of all these childrens films remakes, this sounds epic. Can't go wrong with Watson+Del Toro.

I thought this was done already with Beastly, though I suppose that one wouldn't count

I thought Emma Watson was starring in Guillermo del Toro's version??
Also they already kind of did a live action one. "Beastly" i think it's called... it was bad.
I'll stick to Guillermo del Toro!

Can we have Emilie de Ravin as Belle instead. She is absolutely a perfect Belle in Once Upon A Time. I can't really imagine any other actress being able to bring the character to life any more.
