Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) and Nicola Peltz (Transformers: Age of Extinction) are in talks to join Christian Bale and Rosamund Pike in 20th Century Fox's adaptation The Deep Blue Good-by. The novel of the same name by John D. MacDonald was published in 1964, and was the first in his 21-book series of mystery-adventure books centering on Travis McGee (Christian Bale). Leonardo DiCaprio was once attached to play McGee before Christian Bale signed on.

In the novels, McGee made his living as a "salvage consultant," living as a bachelor on a houseboat. The adaptation will be set in modern day, portraying McGee as an Afghanistan war veteran, who tries to track down stolen sapphires which leads him to a "sadistic torturer." Peter Dinklage is playing a mathematician who struck it rich after developing an app, and becomes McGee's new sidekick. Nicola Peltz is playing the woman who hires McGee to find the sapphires. She is said to act much older than her actual age, and she also knows much more about the gems than she lets on.

James Mangold is directing from a screenplay by Dennis Lehane, which was previously worked on by Kario Salem and Dana Stevens. Production is scheduled to begin this May in both Puerto Rico and Florida. Aside from his role as Tyrion Lannister in HBO's Game of Thrones, Peter Dinklage, most recently starred in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and he will next be seen in Pixels and Michelle Darnell. Nicola Peltz currently recurs in Bates Motel, and she was recently cast in Universal's Untitled Lowrider Project, which she will shoot after The Deep Blue Good-by.
