Shark Night 3D director David R. Ellis has signed on to direct Kite for Distant Horizon.

The project is a live-action remake of the 1998 Japanese anime movie Kite, which follows a young woman who seeks vengeance for her murdered father, a cop who was killed by a crooked police officer in his own department. The woman teams up with her father's ex-partner to find the killer, although she doesn't know that the former partner is in fact the murderer.

Anant Singh and Brian Cox are producing the remake through their Distant Horizon company, alongside Moises Cosio and Alejandro Saevich of the Mexican production company Detalle Films.

Production is scheduled to begin in January, and casting is currently under way.
