Ibid Filmworks' Marc Meyers and Jody Girgenti have acquired rights to John "Derf" Backderf's autobiographical graphic novel My Friend Dahmer.

The novel follows a twelve year old Jeffrey Dahmer as he struggles with his parents' divorce. Throughout his teenage years, he receives no help dealing with his emotional pain, and enters a world of darkness that leads him to committing his first murder two weeks after graduating high school.

The story is told through the eyes of Dahmer's friend at the time, John "Derf" Backderf, who went on to become a political cartoonist. He was nominated twice for an Eisner Award, and won the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for his work.

Marc Meyers most recently directed and wrote coming of age drama Harvest, which Jody Girgenti produced.

No production schedule has been released for this project.
