SDCC 2010: Saw 3D Will Be the Last in the Franchise

USA Today caught up with the producers and star, Tobin Bell, to find out that they'll be making an official announcement at Comic-Con on Friday that Saw 3D will be the last film in the Saw franchise.

"It's time to stop," says Oren Koules, a producer on all the Saw movies. "We have told the story we wanted to tell, and this is going to be a great farewell."

The final film, which was shot in 3-D and will feature 11 booby traps, nearly double the average for previous films. The film was re-edited and submitted six times to the Motion Picture Association of America to bring it from an NC-17 to an R rating.

"I'm surprised we got it," says producer Mark Burg. "It's more violent than any of them. But it's in 3-D, it answers all the questions, it comes full circle. We have the goods on this one."

Saw 3D was released October 29th, 2010 and stars Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Gina Holden, Betsy Russell, Tanedra Howard, Johnny Yong Bosch, Shauna MacDonald, Franky G. The film is directed by Kevin Greutert.

That's the unfortunate thing about the business, they find ways to create more hype for ticket sales, and then rather than following through on their words and not returning, they come back a few years later with a new one, but figure that after the hype and remorse of 'the final one" that they don't have to dish out the goods for the reboot, and thus, the result is the worst hunk of garbage yet. 4 and on are complete crap. #1 had isolation, #2 had fast paced suspense, and #3 had forgiveness as a theme. Thus they were unique, and all featured Jigsaw in the present chronology of the series, rather than in flashbacks. After that, all attempts at making a good flick with an actual theme died off, and now we're left with this empty promise.

I know, right. All horror series have done this. "Friday the 13th" and "A Nightmare on Elm Street" have all stated at one point one certain movie would be the last....then they ended up returning a good 5 years later. Like, FREDDY'S DEAD, then NEW NIGHTMARE. Or FRIDAY THE 13TH part 4 and then JASON TAKES MANHATTEN. Ha, the JASON series did it twice. lol.

I'm sure this won't be the end of SAW. Might be the end for a few years...but its likley to come back at some point in the future.

Is that a promise or are they teasing us?

Once my Melbourne home-boys were off their own movies, it kind of all went downhill from there lol.

Usually I'm a sucker for a good, scary, icky movie - but I STILL haven't seen the last one.

Really, Rufio? Did you think that the producers of this series ever wanted to tell a good story or scare the audience. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you, but the past few films have all been nothing more than gore-fests. I really hope they aren't lying and that this is, indeed, the final film.

they said that before. i'll believe it when i stop seeing them made.
and the fact that it had to keep being submitted to move it from an NC-17 rating makes it seem more juvenile than intriguing (seems like producers were more into making a gore-fest than telling a story or scaring audiences).
    i pass (too)

NO!!!!!!! I want more SAW. I wouldn't care if they released one every year for at least a few more years. They should stop at 10.
