‘Cinderella’ Lands ‘Downton Abbey’ Star Sophie McShera

The British actress will play one of the evil stepsisters alongside Holly Grainger in director Kenneth Branagh’s live-action adaptation.

Downton Abbey star Sophie McShera is in talks to play one of the two wicked stepsisters in Disney's live-action Cinderella. We reported just yesterday that Holly Grainger is playing the other stepsister.

Lily James is locked in to play the title character, an orphan who overcomes a ridiculing family to find her true love, with the help of her fairy godmother. Game of Thrones star Richard Madden is playing the prince who Cinderella falls for, with Cate Blanchett playing her wicked stepmother.

Kenneth Branagh is directing from a screenplay by Aline Brosh McKenna and Chris Weitz, with Simon Kinberg, Alli Shearmur, and David Barron producing. Shooting is scheduled to begin this fall in London.

Cinderella was released March 13th, 2015 and stars Cate Blanchett, Lily James, Richard Madden, Helena Bonham Carter, Nonso Anozie, Stellan SkarsgÄrd, Sophie McShera, Holliday Grainger. The film is directed by Kenneth Branagh.
