Chan-wook Park (Oldboy) is in negotiations to direct the languishing Western The Brigands of Rattleborge for Warner Bros. We first reported on the project back in August 2006, when the studio acquired the script by S. Craig Zahler.

The story follows a sheriff and doctor, who team up to seek revenge against the band of outlaws who pilfered their small town. The screenplay made the Black List in 2006, but has been stuck in development due to its incredibly violent content. It is said that a major star will likely have to come on board for this project to finally move forward.

Red Granite Pictures will fully finance and co-produce along with Mythology Entertainment. Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland will produce for Red Granite, with Mythology Entertainment's Brad Fischer.

No production schedule was given for this period piece. Chan-wook Park made his English-language feature debut with Stoker, set for release next March.

The Brigands of Rattleborge was released in 2013. The film is directed by Chan-wook Park.
