Variety reports that actress Carey Mulligan has joined the cast of the New York-based drama Shame, with Rubicon star James Badge Dale joining the cast as well.

We reported back in September that Michael Fassbender is starring in the drama, which reunites him with Hunger director Steve McQueen. The story centers on Brandon, a 30-something man living in New York City who can't manage his sex life, which is complicated further when his sister moves in with him. Michael Fassbender is playing Brandon and Carey Mulligan is portraying the sister. James Badge Dale will play Brandon's boss.

Steve McQueen is directing from a script he co-wrote with Abi Morgan (Brick Lane). Production is scheduled to begin in January, on location in New York City.

Shame was released December 2nd, 2011 and stars Michael Fassbender, Lucy Walters, Mari-Ange Ramirez, James Badge Dale, Nicole Beharie, Alex Manette, Hannah Ware, Elizabeth Masucci. The film is directed by Steve McQueen.
