‘Captain America 2’ Coming in 2014 Says Chris Evans

The actor reveals Marvel may hold off a bit on the sequel since they don’t want to ’cannibalize their films’, and that he won’t be making any cameos before then.

Chris Evans says Captain America 2 may not happen until 2014
After the success of this summer's Marvel blockbuster Captain America: The First Avenger, it was only a matter of time before a sequel was announced. It seems Marvel is planning on moving forward with Captain America 2, although it may hit theaters later than expected, according to star Chris Evans. Here's what he had to say below about when fans might expect Captain America 2 in theaters.

"They may wait until 2014 until they release the next Cap. Marvel has a lot of balls in the air, they aren't going to cannibalize their films."

We reported last month that Marvel secured the May 16, 2014 and June 27, 2014 release slots for two mystery movies, one of which could be Captain America 2. The actor also confirmed he is signed on for a total of six Marvel movies in all. He believes those movies will be split equally between three Captain America movies and three The Avengers movies, which means he likely won't pop up in other Marvel sequels.

"Out of those six films, if I pop up in one of those [other films], it counts as part of the deal. So if they needed me in a third Cap, and I say, 'Fuck you, give me $30 million,' well...they want to avoid that."

Before he dons the uniform for Captain America 2, Chris Evans can next be seen in the indie thriller Puncture, which opens tomorrow, September 23, and What's Your Number?, which hits theaters on September 30.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier was released April 4th, 2014 and stars Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Redford, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo. The film is directed by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Joss Whedon.

@ghostman Yeah, and until I see Thor, I'm not very optimistic about that.

@ghostman I expect it to look more like this post 2012:
    2013: IM3, Thor 2
2014: Cap 2, Unknown 1 (possibly Hawkeye, Black Widow, Ant Man, or as a truly long shot, Incredible Hulk 2
    2015: Avengers 2
    2016: Thor 3, Cap 3
2017: Unknown 2, possible other film
    2018: Avengers 3

@ROFLitschristian first off, having Thor come out in 2011, and The Avengers come out in 2012 with Thor 2 releasing in 2013, that means Thor is making appearances in 3 straight movies three yrs in a row.

@ROFLitschristian Think of it this way:

    Pre The Avengers:
2008- Iron man and The Incredible Hulk
    2010- Iron man 2
2011- Thor and Captain America: TFA

    Post The Avengers:
    2012- The Avengers
    2013- Thor 2 and Iron Man 3
    2014- Captain America 2?
    2016- The Avengers 2?
    2017- The Avengers 3?

@ghostman But that's the thing. I'm feeling claustrophobic with all these super hero films. Don't get me wrong, me and my uncle are suckers for them, but this overbearing! By the time we get to Avengers 3 there'll be at most 13 films! It's ridonc.

@ROFLitschristian Good idea! that could mean we get two avengers films in two yrs like an Avengers 2 in 2016 and an Avengers 3 in 2017 with those being the only MCU films over the summer.

@ghostman I wouldn't mind that, but realistically it won't happen. But I predict Avengers 2 and 3 will be shot back-to-back and we'll end up getting a Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3 type deal.

@ejk1 So far this is a third confirmation of his involvement as CA. Avengers 2 would make 4.

@ROFLitschristian 3 Avengers movies would be appropriate if Marvel spans out the films evenly. Like, The first movie comes out in 2012, and then you have Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 for 2013, with Capt. America 2 coming out in 2014. Say The Avengers 2 comes out in 2016 and the Avengers 3 releases in 2022. Sounds about right..doesn't it?

I think that Evans should be in the 3 Avenger films because he always took quite serious and plays a good role in all the films that I've watched so far.

@ROFLitschristian If I was locked in for the front-man in the Avengers franchise, I wouldn't be too concerned about money lol. But agreed about the three Avenger films, too much testosterone for me.

Haha, I can't tell if Evans was joking in that last sentence. If I was him I wouldn't be.

More than likely Capt. 2 and Iron Man 3 will be in for those two slots, although something about Doctor Strange screams, "May release!" There're just too many films to precisely decipher. I'm not sure Marvel will do the Thor/Capt. line up again.

As for 3 Avenger films, I oppose. We're more than likely getting 3 films for each separate Avenger already so 3 Avenger films is just so overbearing to me. I'll probably end up losing interest in them by the 2nd film.

Sounds about right. Probably helps to set up Avengers 2 in 2015 or 16.
