Or can the comedy ‘We’re the Millers’ and the fantasy sequel ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’ pull ahead at the box office during this busy weekend?

@thedude-abides I'm just hoping he can do better with his next project and at least have someone check his script this time around.

Elysium was a letdown. The action and cinematography were great, but a very weak story and shotty dialogue throughout made it difficult to sit through at times.

@MillerFarrow Yes, That would've been perfect.

@sean I feel like either the 31st of May or 7th of June would've worked.

@Celestialforthcoming Maybe May 24th or May 31st, or one of the 4 Fridays in July.

@MillerFarrow even though Pacific Rim was going against grown ups 2, here it is going up against a publicly alluring comedy and everyone thinks pixar has made the planes movie. That may serve as a factor. Still, Elysium has been garnering quite a hold on the public interest thanks to the marketing. I just saw an 11 in the morning showing, and it was quite packed. And @thedude1 it was good. Falls behind district 9 but it is still a film with value.

@sean if we're going to draw hypothetical scenarios, what specific weekend would you pick? So far, every weekend was convoluted with a variety of movies. It would depend on a specific weekend.

I think Elysium will destroy Planes. And I sure hope Grown Ups 2 isn't in the top 10 again....

I don't care for any of these movies in the top 10 spots in the box office. I wonder how Thor: The Dark World would have done in the box office earlier this summer, if it had been released in May or July 2013 instead having yet to being released in November 2013 ?

Elysium will win the weekend for sure. It is estimate by nearly all movie websites to win by at least 7 million.

I plan on seeing Elysium on Monday. Hopefully the movie is good.

@Celestialforthcoming You do have a point. I just don't see that happening this time. After all, Pacific Rim was going up against Grown Ups 2.

Planes will be number 1# because people are dumb enough to drag their kids on watching that giant pile of cash-grab.

That's what we thought when pacific rim hit theaters and look what happened. I'm skeptical on this one.

We're the Millers was pretty awful. Like any comedy, a few laughs were delivered. The movie was just a disjointed, contrived, and boring mess. Elysium was really disappointing. The movie started out well. But as soon as Matt Damon's character arrives on Elysium, the whole thing was non-stop action. When it's over I left the the theater feeling underwhelmed. I won't go near Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and Planes. Elysium will win the weekend for sure.
