Ryan Gosling is currently in negotiations to star in Blade Runner 2, which will be directed by Denis Villeneuve. The sequel to the 1982 sci-fi hit Blade Runner will be executive produced by that film's director Ridley Scott. The film is coming from Alcon Entertainment.

Harrison Ford is already confirmed to return as his iconic character, the replicant hunter Rick Deckard. Shooting on Blade Runner 2 won't start until summer 2016, with everyone involved moving forward cautiously, as they know full-well they are walking on sacred ground. Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green have written the original screenplay based on an idea by Fancher and Ridley Scott.

Blade Runner 2 will take place several decades after the conclusion of the original movie. Story details are being kept under wraps at the moment. And there are no details on the character Ryan Gosling is wanted to play.

The move on Gosling's part seems to indicate that he is ready for more mainstream blockbuster roles, something he has shied away from in the past. Blade Runner 2 is one of many recent projects he has currently set up, including the Disney remake The Haunted Mansion, which will be directed by Guillermo del Toro. And he plans to reunite for the third time with Emma Stone in La La Land. He'll next be seen starring opposite Russell Crowe in the noir caper The Nice Guys. He is currently shooting The Big Short with Brad Pitt and Christian Bale.
