Back in March 2013, screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith announced that he had started writing the script for Beetlejuice 2. We've heard very little about the project since then, except that original director Tim Burton and star Michael Keaton will likely return. While doing press for his upcoming drama Big Eyes, Tim Burton revealed that he is still working on the script, and that it's closer than ever to being ready for production.

"It's a character that I love and I miss and I miss actually working with Michael. There's only one Betelgeuse. We're working on a script and I think it's probably closer than ever and I'd love to work with him again."

Seth Grahame-Smith and his writing partner David Katzenberg were first hired to write the script back in September 2011, but it's clear that everyone involved will spend as much time as it takes to get the script just right. Of course, no story details have been confirmed at this time, and we reported in October 2012 that Winona Ryder is interested in reprising her Beetlejuice role of Lydia Deetz. Deadline also recently spoke with star Michael Keaton, who revealed that he has been in contact with Tim Burton about the script.

"Tim Burton and I have emailed about it. We're both in the same situation (of always being busy on other projects). Neither one of us gets tired of the conversation. Tim says he's working on something, then goes away for a while. At some point, someone is going to say we really want to do it. You don't want to f--k it up, so it has to be perfect."

Are you excited to see Michael Keaton and Tim Burton reunite for Beetlejuice 2? Of course, we have no clue on when this project may move forward or not, but it's clear that both the star and director are committed to making this, but only if everything falls into place just right.
