Sony Pictures has announced their musical remake Annie will be released on December 25, 2014, just days after the news that Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhané Wallis will play the title character.

The movie will be going up against Fox's Night at the Museum 3 on Christmas Day next year. Universal's Minions and Disney's Tomorrowland are both slated for release less than a week before on December 19.

Will Gluck is directing Annie from his own revised screenplay. Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna previously worked on the script, based on the award-winning musical by Thomas Meehan. The story will be set in present day, with Jay-Z providing brand new music. Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, and James Lassiter are producing through their Overbrook Entertainment company, along with Jay-Z and Tyran Smith for Marcy Media. No production schedule was given.

Annie comes to theaters December 19th, 2014 and stars Rose Byrne, Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, Bobby Cannavale, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Quvenzhané Wallis, David Zayas, Daniel Flaherty. The film is directed by Will Gluck.
